If you have 3 cats, you’re weird.
I NEVER EVER thought of you as a cat person, Laz!!!! Now That I know you are -— I’m looking and reading your posts in a different way!! All good.
(4 cats here. Two are my daughter’s who had to move in with us. And two are my DH and mine. AND they don’t get along!! Sigh.)

A prudent cat owner should always have an old folded towel near every chair. When you take a seat, put that old towel on your lap. Might sound a bit goofy, but your thighs will thank you.
Thanks, I would go to our local Humane Society tomorrow and rescue another kitten/cat. (Which is where our recently departed kitty was from.) But my wife is still in the “I never want another cat, it’s too sad when they pass away” stage. I suspect she may change in a month or two. I’m sure our cat who passed away would tell us to find her replacement, if she could. She was a really nice and loving animal.
What’s really bizarre is that although I know our cat has passed away, every time I come in the house or get up in the morning I am still automatically looking for her. Our one son who still lives with us says the same thing.
The cat belongs to my Aunt. It managed to draw blood. I screamed.
Really sorry for your loss. One of my three, a rescue, is 16 but still doing fairly well. Life would not be the same without them. I mean they bring so much pleasure and meaning to our lives.

Okay, so night one has come and gone.
Damnable kitten kept me up from 4:30AM to now, mewling.
On the positive side it seems healthy, is playful, and a screened-meet with the other cats resulted in only a few hisses from Beta Cat (#2 in pecking order). Alpha cat couldn’t care less, but when coming over to investigate, had a little conversation with Beta Cat. That was pretty funny.... like they really were discussing things.
Beta Cat is very energetic so it might have a new play buddy, because Alpha Cat DOES NOT PLAY. It’s basically a sack cat ... it’s always sacked out.
On the negative side, if this kitten intends to mew me awake every night, HELL naw. Also more cash outlay, and does it have feline leukimea? All cats should probably be seperate until kitten checked.
So I ask you all: The constant nighttime mewling. Will this go away or is this a failed integration into my house?
Should I keep it or should I adopt it out?
On the subject of meowing...
The only meowing in cat language is done between a mother cat and her kittens. A kitten’s tiny “mew” is a cute, endearing sound, used to solicit attention and care from mom cat. Once the kittens are grown, the mews and meows would stop, if not for communicating with humans. ... Because meowing is what works.
Seems to have gotten your attention, the kitten was just looking for Mom.

Young kitties are very sociable. Did kitty spend the night isolated? How soon can you take kitty to the vet for a wellness check?
Unfortunately, you might not be able to get any vaccines for a couple of weeks, as the kitty is so young.
Sounds like your new pal is just insecure. Give it a little time to adjust. Probably misses it’s mom.
In my experience, after the first night they stop. This may depend on its circumstances, though - my cats have almost always been taken from a litter, or from a rescue; the meowing is just nervousness at new surroundings, or being away from Mom for the first time.
Ear plugs, or listening to the radio with ear plugs, can help.
If you don’t mind a possible small mess, take it into the bed with you and pet it.
We kept expecting to see the cats after they died, too.
Sometimes you even think you hear them, or feel them jumping on the bed in the night.
The fascinating thing about cats is that each one absolutely has its own very definite and individual personality and little ways. There are no two cats alike.
There is no such thing as a free kitten/cat! I have always have a couple of cans of Urgent Care A/D on hand for the special ones that are on hovering on the brink. We just saved 2 kittens that were about 3 weeks old, abandoned and near death.
Their both now the chubbiest little balls of fun and fur. Of course it only cost about $200 in kitten milk/canned food and another $100 in vet bills. They have settled right in and all my other cats take turns grooming them.

Classic! My old German Shorthair would find dead cats and bring them home to take care of them.
That was one cat crazy dog who loved cats, dead or alive!

Right - keep it (is it male or female?) isolated from the other cats, at least for a week. The key to avoiding MAJOR confrontations is a slow introduction. I have 4 - two male, two female. Mac (numero uno) came with me when I escaped from Rancho Bizarro (household of six cats and a crazy beagle, and my former husband #2). After six months of freedom, Mac demanded a buddy - so Lucy was adopted and brought home, used the gradual introduction method, and life was good. Then I got a hankering for a tuxedo kitty, and the PTB led me to an adoption clinic where I met Charlie. Ditto the gradual intro. Last but not least, my neighbor moved in with her guy who is allergic to cats, so I opened my big mouth and received Maggie (#4), who looks like one of the Kliban cats.
Your little one should be checked out at the vet asap. Buy some kitten kibble (dry food - forget the wet stuff until later), and plenty of water. Giver him/her her own litter box away from the other cats. Actually, the experts say you should have an equal amount of litter boxes as cats. I tried that for a while, but got tired of cleaning and filling 4 poop boxes, so it's down to two boxes. Life is still good. Give kitty lots of attention and warm fluffy blankets. I think the meowing will end, once she/he feels secure. Question: your Alpha and Beta - are they male or female?
