When I lived in Phoenix, one of my coworkers was shacked up with a guy who was wealthy. Turned out one day he was in Sheriff Joe’s jail - picked up for owing a huge amount of back child support. He didn’t like bologna sandwiches and quickly paid the back child support to gain freedom. Sheriff Joe put up a motel sign on the jail saying “room available.” We need more of that in America today.

To add insult to injury, it appears Mr. Francisco Chairez is a liar about why he ended up in jail for a year. You don’t typically get a year in the county slammer for a first time DUI.

What’s his rap sheet look like? Multiple DUI’s? Other criminal misdemeanors?
I imagine that most first time offenders are offered a plea deal and multiple offenses are punished harshly with no pleading down.
I think tent jails were ingenious, and I bet some in the government took notice and notes on the logistics and effectiveness.
Giving them time is better than giving 1 year probation and getting another dui.
Why is it that these people always preface their admissions with an excuse? Excuses are effortless for some people. They just spill off their tongues like warm butter. What is it that makes them always have an excuse for anything they do wrong? Why can’t they just say, “I got drunk and screwed up. Sure wish I hadn’t. It was stupid of me.”?
