Fun thread, but I must admit, I have no idea what ‘a Shoney’s’ is. Steak house or something, or fast food?

Shoneys is an inexpensive eatery typically found in the south. They have an amazing buffet breakfast.

LOL A Shoney's is the Southern equivalent to something like a Denny's.No big deal but not McDonalds either.

Why, Shoneys is the home of the All Star Breakfast and all you can eat pancakes!
IHOP? Denneys? Big plastic menu?

I’ve been hitched so long, 30+ years, my date small talk would prolly be something like:
“So, didja get enough to eat? Are you full?”
“You have to go to the bathroom ... again?”

I miss Golden Corral. It was all-you-can-eat of EVERYthing. It’s a car parts store now. Believe a big part of the problem was failing to refrigerate their food.

Kinda like Denny’s. They do have a nice breakfast buffet.
I can eat a lot of bacon at that buffet. I haven’t seen a Shoney’s in TX.

“I have no idea what ‘a Shoney’s’ is. “

Many have given great answers to your question...but I’ll add a twist.

Not sure if Shoney’s still has “drive-in” style dining, but that was the norm in Charlotte, NC back in the “60s. They had the dine-in restaurant, but you could also pull in under the multi-car covered parking & walkway and order thru the mic. An attendant would deliver your food and collect the money.

On Friday/Saturday nights, the three Shoney’s in town were THE place to go for high school students (there were a couple South 21 Drive-Ins...same setup). Kids would drive thru the outside dining area, over and over...just circling thru, looking for friends or just being “cool”. Each Shoney’s/South 21’s were the home territory of certain high schools. If you ventured to another high school’s turf...you risked a confrontation.

Oh, the good ol’ days...
