KINGSPORT A Greeneville woman has been arrested after allegedly zooming through Interstate 81 traffic at 115 mph while hauling a 16-year-old and toddler as passengers.
According to an affidavit filed in Kingsport General Sessions Court, Britanni N. Starnes, 20, is charged with reckless endangerment and speeding. The incident occurred Tuesday at 8:15 p.m.
A Kingsport officer near mile marker 56 spotted a 2010 Nissan Versa speeding in the northbound lanes. Radar reportedly confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 115 mph.
After being pulled over, Starnes claimed she was rushing to the hospital, where her brother was being treated for a football injury. Also in the car were a 16-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl, though their relationship to Starnes is not specified.
The reporting officer contacted the medical facility and learned that Starnes is in no way related to the person she had named. Police also note that the front tires on Starnes car were extremely worn and bald.
Due to her alleged speed, condition of the tires and the presence of juveniles, Starnes was arrested and booked into the city jail. She is scheduled for a November court appearance.
I didn’t know a Versa could go that fast.
115 isn’t all that fast in a modern car. The bald tires though. She deserves jail for that.
Nitrous? Downhill on steep grade? Strong tailwind?
Not in a 1.6 liter four-banger
First thought that popped into my head!!
Without the weight of the Kids in the Car, she probably could have hit 120.
Maybe NASCAR can hire her to replace Danica Patrick, because Danica sucks.
Damn. That’s a harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd 20.
I was pulled over the other day going 100 mph- the cop said “You know the speed limit is just 50 mph, right?” I said “Yes- but I was only going to be driving for 1/2 hour”
No way I would try and top end one of those beer cans.
A close friend of mine son works for the KPD. I will have to ask about this.
I don't get it.. Brother from a different mother or she just happened to randomly name someone being treated at a hospital as some sort of crazy escape clause for speeding?
My VW sedan could hit around 80 mph, downhill, with a tail wind, and that was like riding a skateboard down Pike’s Peak.
A high wind could move me several inches to the left or right. She was flying low. But she’s pretty hot, so not guilty.
I had a 1969 Datsun 510 1.6 4speed that I got up to 100. I was afraid to try going any faster.
The only things I had done were to remove the air pump and swap out the stock exhaust for a stainless header.
Big deal we drove that fast in Germany where there was no speed limit with son in car.
My husband is so lucky, he got stopped going 85 mph in a 45 zone and didn’t get a ticket. Just a warning. Talk about LUCK,
Well, lucky, sure, he got me!
We were with about 50 other Porsches on a hill country scenic drive. We got separated from the group and were trying to catch up, so nice cop didn’t give ticket.
Still shocked. Nice guy.
That’s a good one.
This young woman called her dad after seeing a wrong way driver on tv. Her dad had just left 15 minutes earlier. She quickly warned her dad to look out for a wrong way driver who was on a freeway. He said, just one? I’ve got dozens going by me!
Not too conducive for 115 MPH with two full sized passengers and an infant. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she has the larger engine, but even that is not enough to convince me that 122 HP could drive her to the stated speed.
Maybe she had nitrous or some sort of rocket engine, but I'd say that failing that, this story is busted.
