Boston. Good clean rock. The Cars. Fun cool pop. Van Halen. Rulers of the Universe.
All was fine until one day in the early 1980’s there was a man named Henry Rollins and he introduced ugliness: Punk. Grunge. Rap. Rollins still hosts a weekly show on KCRW in Santa Monica. Wow.
Amanda by Boston still is a great song survives today.
Ha! I bought the Scholz-Rockman amp because of this song!
“..Punk. Grunge. Rap....”
Yeah, it turned to shiite real fast.
I remember when MTV actually used to play MUSIC videos...
Yeah, I’m old ... But I can still shred on the guitar! haha!!
Yeah, I can remember being surprised when I first heard that on my car radio in 1986. I'd read that there was a long-delayed third album, but I still had a big grin on my face all the way to the office that day. Went and bought the cassette at lunch later that day.
As for Rollins and the musical wasteland that he has wrought, do you suppose that something like this may have actually occurred in some parallel universe where musical genres combined and fused, rather than competing for dominance? I hope so - it makes me smile.
“Amanda” is a beautiful tune.
