Amid all its upgrades and advances, the US Navy's newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is lacking one feature: urinals.
Every bathroom on the Ford is, for the first time, gender-neutral, equipped with flush toilets and stalls, according to Navy Times.
Bathroom-design experts have said sit-down toilets are less sanitary and take up more space, and most of the Ford's crew members are men. (Women are only about 18% of the Navy.)
But the Navy has said getting rid of urinals has advantages for current and future operations.
Making every bathroom accessible to all of the ship's sailors will make things more convenient for sailors, the Navy has said. And bathrooms that can be used by either gender mean the Navy can reassign them without making any design changes, should the crew's makeup change.

Do they flush with fresh water?
Salt water plugs up the drains from conventional urinals.
Can your pride!
Pee over the side!........................
Nothing like pee on the toilet seat
The real question: do they all have tampon dispensers?
I guess it’s not called a head anymore.
Sit to pee?
That will be a court martialable offense.
How long before leaving the seat up is considered an offense?
All the ships I been on we pissed on the forward bulkhead. We sat on 2 Two by Fours on an open commode to $h!t.
There are always going to be males in the Navy. It’s a good bet that the men will outnumber the women. Man is defined as having a swinging appendage used for urinating, and other purposes. It’s easy to aim the appendage, even on a pitching ship.
Common sense indicates that keeping some of the urinals is a good idea. Unfortunately, common sense is long gone from most of the institutions in the USA, including those under Trump.

The description I recall from hearing about my dad’s stint aboard an aircraft carrier in Korea was that it was just a long, saltwater trough with seats suspended over some sections of it, with the waste just sent right back into the ocean. They used to play pranks like lighting a wad of toilet paper on fire atop a turd for the sheer amusement of hearing the guys downstream yelling as their butts and other rhyming appendages got singed one by one as it floated on down the line and eventually out to sea.
Nuclear powered vessels have loads of fresh water. They make it.
For cleanliness sake all toilet seats should be spring loaded, that way no urine will get on them when women “hover.”
Were you in Admiral Nelson's navy?
I hate to ask, but we’ve heard so much about “transsexual” people’s bathroom access recently. I hate to ask how “trans” people do their business, but look for lawsuits if somehow these bathrooms don’t accommodate the tiny fraction of sailors who may be “trans” and demand their equal rights.
He was exactly right...I remember the same thing...LOL
Most Navy ships make fresh water.
They’re both sitzpinklers regardless of whether they’re coming or going.
