Apparently the security (https) is having trouble with the name resolution or something
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
Well that sucks
It doesn’t load a full page. Probably have to do that trick with changing it to 20 posts and threads or something. Guess I’ll just check back tomorrow rather than fight it tonight.
Have you tried listening to the radio over the internet ?
iMac/Safari. No problems whatsoever.
You might want to tell the guy on the AM thread.
No problems here...Mac Pro/Safari.
John/Jim only really need HTTPS on the donation page, login page and sign-up page, etc....encrypting my mundane posts seems like overkill!! ;-)
Going back to the twenty items setting fixed the partial loading for me.
It is working on HTTP.
But its functionality on HTTP is quite limited at the moment. The stuttering page problem is worse than usual. At a time of day when the server load must be very low (unless hordes of English-speaking Chinese have suddenly become interested in the notion of a Free Republic). Which leads me to suspect a software problem, not a hardware problem.
Are you logged in?
Just kidding.
Seems to working normally again at the moment. Strange.
It's the trendy thing to do in webmaster-dom. Gotta be secure, dontcha know. Privacy matters!
In FR's context, all it means is, your ISP won't know where on FR you surfed or what, if anything, you posted, but it will still know that you are an FR user.
It is working on HTTP.
Doctor, it hurts when I do this.
Doctor: don't do that.
And now it’s acting up again. Sigh.
We aren’t the “super-secret underground conservative site”?!? :-) I am not experiencing the “HTTPS” error because Safari handles that differently than IE or Edge or FF, but I am still having the “partial page load” issue.
Additional info. on avoiding the “HTTPS errors” on Windows:
Are you actually using FR via HTTPS?
I get an empty response error when I try.
I am not “forcing” an “HTTPS://" connection (just doing a “normal” “www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index” call...my Safari browser sees that Https isn’t available and defaults to http. Chrome on my Mac doesn’t give an error either...are you forcing your browser to only accept HTTPS sites? The only way I get “no/empty response” error is if I force an HTTPS connection to FR by entering “ https://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index “.
Try this FR page and see what you get: https://secure.freerepublic.com/donate/
(It is an https: page).
I took that to mean that HTTPS was failing (what else could it mean?). Which I quickly confirmed by trying it myself (I normally connect via HTTP). IIRC, HTTPS used to work, but I can't see why you'd bother (it being neither banking, brokerage, legal advice, nor medicine nor national security).
But the real problem is, normal HTTP connections are returning partial pages and stopping.
Previously, you would get a partial page, then more of the page, then the rest of the page, then the page would be complete. Now, you are getting a partial page. Period. End of sentence.
IOW, the partial-page bug has gotten worse!
You can tell: if the page does not end in the standard footer, it is a partial page, even if your browser has been tricked into thinking the page is complete.
