Magic Bots: Vine-Inspired Robots Can Grow on Demand

Robots that mimic ivy vines can grow thousands of times their original lengths at speeds faster than the average person can run, a new study finds.

The new soft, flexible robots could one day be used in tight situations, such as to slither through rubble or snake inside the human body...

The newly developed robot is made of soft, flexible polyethylene, the most common plastic in the world. It grows from its tip via internal air pressure, which pushes plastic tubing stored at its base up through the core of its body. The robot is initially about 11 inches (28 cm) long, but can rapidly reach a maximum length of about 236 feet (72 meters), according to the researchers.

"The body doesn't move as the tip extends," Hawkes told Live Science. "That is, you could hold the body of the robot tightly in your hands, and the tip would keep growing."

So happy birthday, again!

My daughter’s birthday often falls on Mother’s Day, but mine never will. :o[

So I note that the weather foreguesstimators are again throwing darts at the board. Since all of the snow we had on the ground was malted away by rain and a couple days of glowbull warmthing temperatures they are telling us that it will be white out there soon. (Is that racist?)

They have been saying 1 - 3 inches which is no big deal and won’t require the assistance of the Olde Deere. I now note that the foreguestimators have blessed us with a ‘winter weather advisory’ that informs us that we are now looking at 2-4 inches. Unless I look at the weatherguesser’s app on my smortphome - from the same (notnecessarily)Accu(rate) Weather folk - where I see we’re in for 3 - 6 inches. I expect those figures will change based on previous experience (and a look at the radar. ;-)

I’ll wait till it’s all done and then decide if I need to caress the Olde Deere. ;-)

LOL! All my socks are white, but some have gray toe and heel. They are all “No Nonsense” brand because they have a good thick sole on them to protect my nerveless feet.

My BP med from iherb.com is being discontinued by them, so I’ve emailed the company that makes it, hoping I can still get it. The last few months are the first time in several years that I’ve been able to control the BP and I want to keep getting the med.

Over the last three months, I had enough foresight to buy enough for five months, but I’m down to four months, now. At least I’ll get info on it, soon, and maybe find an herbal substitute.

(And maybe, once I get moved, I won’t need it!)

One should not have to worry about such things as the Not-So-Accurate-Weather prognostication on one’s day of birth anniversary!

I don’t even want to think about things like that. I just want to be warm again!

And with that, kiddos, I’m off to bed. Sleep is sounding very good, right about now!

See all y’all tomorrow!

What a squeeful little face!

Good morning. I’ve been up most of the night. I finally just gave up about an hour and a half ago and here I am. breathing treatment is done, bed is made and I’m ready for the day.

I think the insomnia was because I took the last morphine dose too late in the day. My eyelids were heavy most of the night, but my mind wouldn’t shut down. *sigh*

I need to go to Walmart, but I can’t get much. I was going to go to the thrift store this morning, but I don’t think I feel up to it. I don’t feel like going to Wally’s, either, but there it is.

The kitten lives in Hong Kong.

We have a complex schedule today. I don’t think I’ll go to Weight Watchers.

Snow is forecast for tomorrow, so several things need to be done today that would otherwise be done tomorrow. As it were.

There were some things I wanted to say, but I’ll take a nap instead. This is not good.

If you didn’t sleep at night, a nap is good.

DP took my keys to work, but he brought them back before I had to drive everyone all over town in the car.

Hmpf. Not even 30 minutes. Ohwell...

There are things to be done, and the day isn’t getting any younger.

And neither are we!

Off to get my other shoes on, and then I’ll take Elen and show her how we walk the dog. She can go on her own tomorrow.
