The spinoff I liked the best was Return of the Living Dead. I don't think Romero had anything to do with it other than the obvious inspiration. Unlike Night of the Living Dead it mixed in some quality 'dark' humor. I couldn't find the movie for viewing free online to post a link.

That is a great movie. Love how they mix comedy with the horror like American Werewolf in London.

Return is where the Brains thing comes from. It started as a novel sequel to Night written Russo who wrote Night, but then Russo and George split up, Russo kept the rights to “Living Dead” which is why George’s movies dropped the “Living”. Great soundtrack too.
