Wow: Donald Trump Jr. Releases the Emails -- and They Look a lot Like, Um, Collusion
Townhall ^ | July 11, 2017 | Guy Benson

Posted on 07/11/2017 2:54:35 PM PDT by righttackle44

Earlier today, here at Townhall and on Fox News, I said that more information needed to be gathered before anyone should declare the Donald Trump, Jr. story a bombshell or a dud. First and foremost, I argued, it would be very helpful to see the actual emails that preceded the now-infamous June meeting, which the New York Times claimed would demonstrate that the president's son was well aware of the alleged source and nature of the promised anti-Clinton information (which never materialized) in advance. The Times story was rooted in unnamed sources who characterized, but apparently did not produced, the messages in question. In order to determine if the documents were being mischaracterized, we should see them, I said. About an hour later, Donald Trump, Jr. tweeted the full four-page exchange, which Cortney relayed here. Trump Jr. cast his tweets as efforts at full transparency, but one can't help but wonder if there was another pressing motive at play: He preempted the Times, which had the chain and was about to run with it. In any case, the content of these emails was, in my case, literally jaw-dropping. Trump Jr's associate alerted him to the supposed existence of highly sensitive information regarding wrongdoing tied to Mrs. Clinton, telling him that it would be furnished by a "Russian government attorney" who was representing "Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump" (who now claims she wasn't tied to the Kremlin). To which Trump Jr. replied, "if it's what you say I love it." This couldn't be much clearer: And these shifts look really bad, especially when you read the quote from March in which Trump Jr. flatly denies meeting with any Russian nationals in arranged meetings: . . .

‘Not sure why he released the emails. Why not ignore the whole deal?’

Ignoring it wouldn’t have worked. The NYT had a reporter who worked on this story for a solid year. They planned to spin it for all it was worth. DTJ putting it all out there took the wind out of their sails. Here’s an insightful comment from The_Donald:

TonyVilla89

LOL! He tweeted the raw Truth for ALL to see and that’s bad?

What’s wrong? Don’t like the Truth being put out there without Fake News putting their spin on it?

“D@mn, now everyone can see for themselves what transpired instead of reading our dramatized articles that tell them how to think and feel.”

Meeting with a Russian attorney is NOT meeting with Russian National Government officials. He did not lie previously.

They performed a 20 minute quickie collusion to place a Russian force field around Wisconsin to prevent Hillary from campaigning in that state.

Its messy . If you were getting info from a foreign intelligence service to use against a political operative..is it a crime. Ari Fleischer indicated no crime but should not cross that line

Where it might be a crime is with kushner and manafort not disclosing the meeting. Did they need to disclose it ???

“Show me where collusion in a campaign is against the law.”

52 U.S. Code § 30121 - Contributions and donations by foreign nationals

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/52/30121

It’s prohibited for a person to solicit a thing of value to a campaign from a foreign national.

These emails show that Donald Trump Jnr thought this lawyer was a foreign national with valuable material about the Clinton campaign. His attempting to arrange a meeting with her to obtain this material, that’s solicitation.

It might not have led anywhere, but it doesn’t have to. Just trying to get materials of value from a foreign national still breaks the law.

Junior may actually have got himself in a spot of bother here. Certainly I wouldn’t expect this story to go anywhere soon.

So Don Jr. is offered evidence that Hillary Clinton is being illegally funded by Russia. Lets say it was real and not just a political opp which it appears to be. So he then given this information proving that the Russian government is funding Hillary campaign. So he turns it over to the FBI, they investigate and arrest Hillary Clinton for campaign law violations. I think that makes Don Jr. a hero.

Instead the information was bad and probably a planned political operation by that GPS Fusion group. Don didn’t offer to trade anything for information nothing illegal happened. Big nothing burger.

‘Is [collusion] a crime?’

I have your answer:

‘Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia is “not a crime” - Alan Dershowitz’

Donald Jr. had the understanding that she was representative of the Russian govt. This was before the meeting. This is one of the bigger issues. It isn’t collusion and it isn’t illegal. It is though not helpful.

-- The problem isn't what the meeting returned, it is what Junior thought the meeting was going to return. That and the statement that Russia wanted Trump to win makes this a messy situation. --

ROTFL. He thought he'd get dirt on Hillary. That's messy? He's offered information, he takes some time to hear out the offer. If there really was evidence of crooked dealing by Hillary, should that be used by a political opponent, or hidden? I know there are other options, but the authorities would for sure hide any investigation of criminal activity.

The statement that Russia wants Trump to win is an unsubstantiated throwaway, it makes the offer of "dirt on Hillary" credible, supposedly. But take it on it's face, a foreign government endorses a candidate.

Foreign leaders felt plenty free to voice opposition to Trump, support for Hillary. France's Hollende followed through. Messy? I mean messy for Hillary?

Not sure about disclosure, but Manafort of all people should have known the meeting wasn’t a good idea.

It IS a matter of credibility. It may not be against the law or policy, but we would condemn the same series of events if the Clintons or Barack the Pretender or Schumer, or any other of the leftist beasts did it.

No we would not. It's called opposition research and every campaign does it.

You are so wrong. Once again..I challenge you to go find posts from 2016 where I say i dont want trump elected.

You are in denial if you dont think this is going to get much worse before it gets better..especially with felix sater deciding to snitch once again about money laundering on an International scale

You better believe NY is gunning for trump and his family..and preet is gladly watching

Collusion involves deceit. If Clinton really was doing dirty deals with the Russians and Trump found out about it from the Russians, it wouldn’t be collusion.
