Earlier today, here at Townhall and on Fox News, I said that more information needed to be gathered before anyone should declare the Donald Trump, Jr. story a bombshell or a dud. First and foremost, I argued, it would be very helpful to see the actual emails that preceded the now-infamous June meeting, which the New York Times claimed would demonstrate that the president's son was well aware of the alleged source and nature of the promised anti-Clinton information (which never materialized) in advance. The Times story was rooted in unnamed sources who characterized, but apparently did not produced, the messages in question. In order to determine if the documents were being mischaracterized, we should see them, I said. About an hour later, Donald Trump, Jr. tweeted the full four-page exchange, which Cortney relayed here. Trump Jr. cast his tweets as efforts at full transparency, but one can't help but wonder if there was another pressing motive at play: He preempted the Times, which had the chain and was about to run with it. In any case, the content of these emails was, in my case, literally jaw-dropping. Trump Jr's associate alerted him to the supposed existence of highly sensitive information regarding wrongdoing tied to Mrs. Clinton, telling him that it would be furnished by a "Russian government attorney" who was representing "Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump" (who now claims she wasn't tied to the Kremlin). To which Trump Jr. replied, "if it's what you say I love it." This couldn't be much clearer: And these shifts look really bad, especially when you read the quote from March in which Trump Jr. flatly denies meeting with any Russian nationals in arranged meetings: . . .

I dont know what you are trying to get me to see. This woman has a history. She has dubious Connections. She was using a cutout. It was not an innocent meeting about poor kids.
I have said motive is unclear but this could very well have been an FSB plot for blackmail material.
I am interested to see if we hear anymore about the alleged video of her and the FSB agent. Who leaked it and who is really in it. It is a very short video

The emails imply this is info from the Russian gov and how they want to help Trump. All the claims of never having had any contact “in collusion” with “the Russians” is totally blown. The real question is why did this Rob guy lie about what this woman would have when he meets her. It stinks of a setup, they’ve been planning this for a year.
The cry will be “so what else haven’t you been honest about? we need endless investigations now!!”. And they will get it. It matters not that the Dems did exactly the same thing with the fake “dossier”. It matters not that this isn’t illegal, the impropriety and credibility are the issue. He was naive, shouldn’t have accepted the invite. Of course, the Dems can do this at will, the media won’t go after them and the Repubs probably wouldn’t try such a dirty trick.

Donald, the son, was a private citizen when this occurred and has remained a private citizen. Donald, the father, is in no way responsible for the actions of his adult child. He revealed, perhaps, a certain amount of naivete in expecting to get some damaging information about the Clintons but that’s all there is to that.
Incidentally, isn’t this EXACTLY the same thing that Sen. John McCain was hoping to get with the fake dossier only McCain is a U.S. Senator and federal employee?

I don’t see it that way at all. I think Donald Trump Jr thought what this guy/gal had to say sounded interesting and he wanted to hear about it. Maybe it was something on the uranium deal? Turns out is was a nothing burger and the meeting only went 20 minutes if that.
I am sure if there was something there the legal team would have got involved. But again it was nothing. Of course the dimoKKKRATS will go on and on even if there is nothing there.

Perhaps, but they already had their hooks in Hillary due to her record at State (and Foundation dealings.) They needed to find a way to get their hooks into the Trump camp, so they had something to hold over whoever won.
If, say, Gary Johnson or Evan McMullin had gotten any serious traction, the Russkies would have tried to get a hook in them too.
As Putin’s boy Aleksandr Dugin has said openly, their goal is to cause chaos. (Unfortunately, the left is giving them precisely what they want.) When we are in chaos and steeply divided is when our enemies (Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, etc.) make their move. (And/or when we have leadership inclined not to do anything to stop them, as in the 8 years before President Trump took office..)
If they can get something to hold over any potential leader we might choose, they are free to carry out all their nefarious plans.
