Tennis star Venus Williams caused a car crash earlier this month that led to the death of a passenger in another vehicle, according to a police report released Thursday.
Palm Beach Gardens police say witnesses told investigators that Williams ran a red light in her 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV, causing a June 9 crash that injured 78-year-old Jerome Barson, who died two weeks later.
The report says a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by Barsons wife, Linda, crashed into the side of Williams SUV. Linda Barson told investigators that she was approaching the intersection when her light turned green and that she was unable to stop in time. Linda Barson suffered unspecified moderate injuries. Williams, who turned 37 on June 17, was not hurt.
She told investigators she had entered the six-lane intersection on a green light but had been forced to stop midpoint by traffic ahead of her. She said she did not see the Barsons car when she crossed into their lanes.

So you’re one of those people that just plows through shit because “I have a green light!!!!! “
...will she get the Halle Berry slap on the wrist treatment?
Media has been pretty darn quiet about this...gee I wonder why.
She drives a 2010? Interesting.
Around here we have a lot of left-turn lanes with green arrows. Most turn into a car-free lane. What bugs me is the people that wait until the car in front of them is two car-lengths ahead of them, and THEN they start moving. Or the person that is looking on the cell phone and is four car-lengths behind. I’ll probably get in trouble though someday as I’m right on the guy’s bumper when I go.
My other pet peeve is people not staying in their lanes when turning left or right. I used to turn left (into my lane) in front of people turning right - to give them a “learning lesson” to stay in their lane. Now that I’m a bit older and wiser I will still do it given enough time so I know the other person will see me. Years ago (and dumber) I didn’t care. “Hey - if they hit me it will be THEIR fault.”
And regional. East and West Coast wealthy seem to like flashy cars. A number of American billionaires, mostly raised in the Midwest or South, are noted to drive pretty modest vehicles.
“shes driving a seven year-old car!”
She is not a big spender and a show off. She was saving well. It works out for that 78 year old driver’s family. It will work out pretty well.
In southern CA there is a delay where the light is Red in both direction to prevent something like this from happening.

Drivers always adjust. They will keep driving even if it just turned red, knowing that the other traffic still has red. Can’t fool the mother nature, nor can you fool the American driver.
It would suck to get T-boned by some guy speeding up to go through the yellow.”
Guy in a pick-up this afternoon roared through the light at least 50 mph which had just turned red for him. Gotta watch out for people doing that in our part of Texas. We always make sure everyone on cross streets is at a full stop before we move into the intersection. May make people behind us mad, but better that than get t-boned.
Thanks for correcting me everybody!!!!
I admit to getting confused between which one is great and which one is a little great :)
NYC is a DISASTER with the number of cars. Too many people have 3 or 4 cars.
The unions rob the city blind, as do the councilmen so nothing gets fixed.
I was GUILTY early on of having that damn cell phone in my hand and looking down like an ass.
I finally said “What the #### am I doing? I’m gonna kill someone! Maybe a kid!”
Don’t use it anymore in the car.
CHEAPSKATE!!!
Reminds me my commodities trader brother in law.
We were together once and we went into a deli and he bought a coke and didn’t ask me if i wanted one lol!!!
That’s just one of many stories that make me not like him too much :)
Not that I was OWED the 2 dollar soda, but I think his 40 million portfolio could have taken the financial hit :)
Well stated and agreed.
It’s sad: A single moment of distraction may lead to a horrific situation, in this case apparently the death of an innocent person.
Not passing judgment, just saying the world is sometimes ugly. What a world. Sigh.
Reread the article
I think it’s great. The car still gets her from point a to point b. That’s why you may not hear bankrupt from her. Now she will be sued and settle out of court. But I applaud her frugal lifestyle. It will pay off in her future.
She did go through a changing yellow at best.
I lost count of the number of times I did that when I was young.
There but for the Grace of God...
If one can go, six can go...
For all of the small people it would be vehicular homicide
