The end of the Supreme Court term looms, and with it the prospect the terrifying prospect of a retirement. Specifically, the retirement of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, who will turn 81 next month and is the longest-serving current justice, named to the high court almost 30 years ago.
So if Kennedy is inclined to retire, it is hard to begrudge him that choice. But his departure would be terrible for the court and terrible for the country. It could not come at a worse time. Any court vacancy these days, under a president of either party, triggers a battle between liberal and conservative forces. Kennedys retirement would unleash nomination Armageddon, given the feral political environment and the pivotal role he plays on the closely divided court.

The left wants to destroy America. Lets destroy them first.
Exactly! And Donald Trump understands that and he is doing a good job despite the Globalists and the many worthless Republicans.
I wonder if the WaPo will be required to file FEC campaign contribution filings for the Trump 2020 campaign if they keep publishing articles like this; what a way to inspire the people to keep Trump in office if all those who tirelessly work to undermine the Republic and the constitution that we live under are heading towards retirement!
The day just keeps getting better and better.
If Kennedy and Ginsberg go life improves in this country.

That would be a game where you pick the international law that supports your preferred outcome.
Many countries ban abortion or make it extremely difficult. Would the “international law” advocates on the SCOTUS be willing to consider those legal traditions?
It is very likely that we will have a majority of textualist/originalists for the first time in 70 years.
It would be a revolution.
I should have put a “barf bag” warning with this when I posted it, but any editorial from WAPO implies a barf bag.
Their tears are as precious jewels to me.

Not a chance. The whole idea of considering international law, is to give the justices a wider range of precedents so that they can pick and choose and find something to support their preferences and opinions.

You’re right.
I was in supreme terror during 0bamas reign, especially the first two years. I am enjoying the leftists pinkos being in panic mode. I hope all their nightmares come true.
And don't think for a minute that they aren't still muttering about it.
Kennedy retiring would be fantastic.
That is best in life.
“Conservatives have done a horrible job of picking conservatives.”
You ain’t kidding. The supreme court should have been heavily conservative for decades.
“lamentations of their women.”
You bet, King of Aquilonia!
Yeah, I bet they thought just that way.
Dems will block any appointments though. Changing to a majority confirmation would not be good either.Hope we muddle through!
At least we won’t have Hillary judges.
Personally I hope it’s just that - a rumor. Just to agitate them and unnerve them and make them sweat. Then deny the rumor as “without merit”. A couple of month later do it again. I savor their fear!
