The terrifying and terrible prospect of Justice Kennedy retiring
Washington Post ^ | June 23, 2017 | Ruth Marcus

The end of the Supreme Court term looms, and with it the prospect — the terrifying prospect — of a retirement. Specifically, the retirement of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, who will turn 81 next month and is the longest-serving current justice, named to the high court almost 30 years ago.

Any court vacancy these days, under a president of either party, triggers a battle between liberal and conservative forces. Kennedy’s retirement would unleash nomination Armageddon, given the feral political environment and the pivotal role he plays on the closely divided court.

When asked about the possibility of Donald Trump assuming the presidency instead, Ginsburg responded, “I don’t want to think about that possibility, but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs.” The justice then acknowledged that the future of the court will be decided by the next president:

“It’s likely that the next president, whoever she will be, will have a few appointments to make,” Ginsburg said with a smile.

Bwhaahahahaha!!!!

Less than six months into Trump’s first term, and the Post’s fear-mongers are already running out of adjectives. Soon they will be reduced to inarticulate grunts and rude gestures.

This Washington POSt opinion is both a lamentation and a not-so-subtle implied threat to Justice Kennedy.

Excerpt: Justice Kennedy, perhaps it is unfair to pile all this onto your shoulders, but is it really wise to subject an already divided country to even more turbulence?

And there's yer trouble. It should merely be a quest for constitutional judges.
