If you've ever had an inexplicable love for a song that's just strange, post a link to it here. Should be amusing and entertaining for a Saturday night.
Correct, I should have mentioned I’m at ground zero in the 6th CD. You’ll get ads targeted for you as part of the mass customization the Internet brings.
I’m ok with geolocation on my iPhone but I’m not with my desktop so I miss out on such targeting.
"Oh Babe What Would You Say" by Hurricane Smith
Same here - like Roger Miller for same reason.
I’m not sure on Ma na na na, do you mean Manamana? Here’s footage from French TV, a rare live performance from 1972:
Hurricane Smith - Oh Babe What Would You Say
Thanks for the "earwash" - Prince is always welcome music relief.
Yes - I almost felt guilty posting those songs. "The Forbidden Zone" is a cult movie that borders on perversion, and quite honestly definitely crosses the line for some. It was produced in partnership with the band "Oingo Boingo" or AKA "The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo".
Trivia Note: The introduction song is the original track that the intro to the cartoon "Dilbert" uses.
That being said, the movie is at best twisted so if you ever watch it, be prepared and don't do it with "sensitive" company. I actually saw it played on TV twice but not since I cut cable. Kind of supports that decision I suppose.
The Battle of New Orleans...
“I am a Walrus” was pretty stupid...
I limit my exposure now but appreciate any number of unusual movies that push the boundaries. I’ll keep that in mind if the opportunity ever arises.
Yep - manamana sounds right.
Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash or Nitty Gritty Dirt Band?
Dang Me.... Jimmy Dean
I would sing that chorus incessantly when I was a kid... With the best southern twang I could muster.
Dang me, dang me
They oughta take a rope and hang me
High from the highest tree
Woman, would you weep for me?
“Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash or Nitty Gritty Dirt Band?”
Why... Johnny Horton of course... Although the Cash version was good too.
There are better audio versions around but I chose this one because it’s live with video, from The Ed Sullivan Show:
Johnny Horton - Battle Of New Orleans
Not seeing Jimmy Dean. Roger Miller?
If finger prints would show on skin, I wonder whose I'd find on you
Frank Zappa - “The Adventures of Greggary Peccary”
“Not seeing Jimmy Dean. Roger Miller?”
Oops! It was early... Roger Miller!
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Roger Miller on tour with his guitar player at the time, Danny Gatton. I went to see Danny Gatton but I was very pleased with the whole concert, those two worked real well together.
Jimmy Dean had a few good ones too!
When I was in high school I had a part-time job at a industrial kitchen up the street in Northern Virginia and our supervisor was a lady named Ann. She had been a bartender down in Southeast DC back when it was a dynamic Country and Western music scene, with a flourishing tavern hang out kind of a place. Ann had a scrapbook with Roy Clark Jimmy Dean riding Harleys, Patsy, at el... and all these C&W stars in it. An amazing scrapbook. Ann was one of a kind.
That whole DC scene was totally different in the early sixties and that’s where Roger Miller and Danny Gatton probably first met, so they weren’t unfamiliar with each other, I can only imagine that they had a history going back to that Southeast DC C&W period.
