Warner Bros. superhero tentpole Wonder Woman held on to the top spot at the box office while Universals Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy reboot failed to unwrap big gains domestically as Hollywoods bleak summer continued this weekend. Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess-turned World War I peacekeeper raked in $16 million Friday for an estimated $57.2 million weekend total in its second week of release, according to Box Office Mojo. The well-reviewed Patty Jenkins-directed film, with a 93 percent fresh rating on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, fell just 45 percent in its second weekend for a ten-day domestic total of $205 million. The film has fared even better overseas, with its international tally standing at $435 million.

Since top gun toms movie m/o has been almost 100%:
Solo hero
No female leads taller than him
His mission is to save the world, overcoming big odds
He can do anything
This is what he thinks scientology does for him in real life
Top Gun, Few Good men, MI series, Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, minority report...
The few exceptions were done for other goals. Eyes wide shut to quell gay rumors/divorce from Kidman, the vampire one to go with the big vampire trend and he still played a solo, supernatural powers hero-ish type, and with shorter actors too as normal. 4th of july was paralyzed solo counterculture hero.
Its a theme that has kinda been worn out for a very long time.
Oh yeah war of the worlds too. Fits right in with lone hero doing it by himself (for his kids).
Even days of thunder fits the profile.
I know. I just thought that it needed a mention. :-)
There are alternative producers, like MainStay Productions, making good movies.
Yeah! And then they can do another King Arthur movie, and...oh, wait.
Hmmmm...what have they not redone lately? Maybe a Look Who's Talking "reboot"?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
This iteration looks like it can't decide if it's a horror movie, or an action movie, so it fails miserably at both. I think I'll miss it.
I will skip Top Gun 2 because of him.
“””As cheesy as Aschluss 77 was...”””
Say what?
Hubby and I spent a pleasant evening yesterday watching Beauty and the Beast. Yes, some CGI; but, it serves the story. Lovely music.
Universal is hoping to bring back it’s Monster Movies ?
The spelling might be off but that was the title of this past Saturday’s 70s Wonder Woman episode.
Unbelievably corny.
Adolf 2.0 didn’t survive.
Or another king kong. Sarc
It was probably “Anschluss 77”. Anschluss means annexation or a “connection” of some kind.
That looks like it and I know almost zero German and apparently neither does my spell check.
Too bad it didn’t do well. The critics hate it because of its... perhaps conservative message.
SPOILERS AHEAD: Lets just say, two straight white people vs a pro-choice minority woman... At least that is how my friends who saw it summed it up.
Simply put:
1. “The Mummy” can be seen as a further characterization of Hillary Clinton’s desire to rule the world, with elimiating all those, both individuals and countries, who stand in her way, and leaving a large ruined landscape without a care.
2. “Wonder Woman”, cast in the time period of “The War To End All Wars”, takes it upon herself to STOP/END all the senseless killing, thereby lending creedence to putting all wars to an end, or die in the attempt to do so.
