>>Amok Time

Yep: We learned that is sucks to be Spock’s BFF. And Spock is rich.

In the early 21st century, the cry was- "Landrieu, save us!"

And why the episode with the children and the fat, ugly angel lawyer didn't make this list, I don't know…

Lessee... the one where the Crew of ST:Enterprise became sexual salamanders... The one where Worf and his buddies went to howl at the moon... Any episode involving Ferengi...

There were MANY from ST:TOS which were bad in the sense of cheesy and poorly done. But dayum! TNG and Enterprise boldly went where no-one should ever have gone.

“Darmok” — arguably the best single SF episode of ANY SF series.

You're kidding, right?

Like a warp-capable, computer literate, species wouldn't KNOW their own language was idiomatically based, and said idioms are not a definitive requirement for effective communication?

Yeah, I don’t get that one.

The story is exactly OPPOSITE the poster’s recollection.

The Yangs were barely human savages, while the Combs were all in Mao jackets.

Knew a guy in college that referred to TNG as “The UN in Space.”

Seems like the article’s author’s opinions are motivated mostly by extreme leftism. The fact that the American analogs have a better society than the Communist analogs means that The Omega Glory is one of the worst episodes ever? Not my favorite, but...

And when someone steals the Captain’s body to highjack a ship, the author sees the first-person’s viewpoint that she is incompetent and cray-cray and decides, “It’s because she’s a woman isn’t it?” You would EXPECT her to be competent, and rational? (OK, there is that one where Spock steals the enterprise to free Capt. Pike from his paralysis...)

I never watched Enterprise. Voyager killed it for me. I doubt that Enterprise could be as bad as Voyager, but I never had any interest in finding out.

"Darmok" is a great choice.

Personally, I lean toward:

DS9 - best Trek series ever.

Garak - best Trek character ever.

"In The Pale Moonlight" - best Trek episode ever.

>> Voyager killed it for me. <<

I wish I could have hated ST:V as much as I should have — I distinctly remember the first time we heard Kate Muldrew speak my wife burst out laughing. When Mrs. FD could finally collect herself she asked “is that her real voice? It sounds like a Munchkin or on helium!”

But the general plot lines were compelling in their own way. The subtext of “we will adhere to Star Fleet rules because the alternative is complete chaos” which requires everyone to sign up (they had a few chances to jump ship but didn’t because, you know, Star Trek!).

They show ST:V on a few stations and I do find myself caught up with the situations — and my chance to be the Monday Morning Parisi Squares coach.

Enterprise? After a few episodes Mrs. FD again took the helm and said “all you do is call every single character an ahole.” She was right, even the Vulcan eye-candy hawtie — in fact she was the most insufferable ahole of them all.

YMMV — and clearly does. :) :)

One thing every Trekker that saw even a single ep of TOS and TNG knows: It took 2 dudes to replace 1 Kirk and Kirk would have kicked PICARD’S BUTT (which he almost did in that sad, sad movie).

DS9 deserves its own discussion thread even if so many hated it ;)

I saw that. What a creep.

The WRONG message would be that America is superior to the USSR? Really?

It didn't take me long to realize this review of episodes was by a politically correct liberal.

Two episodes I absolutely expected to be in the review were not even mentioned.

1. The one where Riker falls in love with the Homosexual alien.
2. The one where Riker deliberately mutinies against a superior officer and informs enemy aliens of the Federation developed phase cloaking ship.

Both episodes were utter dreck, and the second one prompted me to stop watching "Next Generation" all together.

Now for some of the favorites...

Gotta love Landru!

"City on the edge of forever" and "The Doomsday Machine" were two of my favorites.

I'd offer City on the Edge of Forever as a candidate for best episode.

I agree. I also believe it has won that place in various surveys on "best Star Trek episode."

“Balance of Terror” has to be one of the best in the whole ST franchise.
