Vicky noticed a change in her husband's demeanor when they talked on the phone after the show.
"When we spoke after the show, I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him," she continued. "What happened is inexplicable and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details. I know that he loved our children and he would not hurt them by intentionally taking his own life."
An attorney for the Cornell family, Kirk Pasich, reiterated Vicky's belief that an extra dosage of Ativan, an anxiety medication often employed by recovering addicts, altered Chris Cornell's mental faculties after the Detroit show. Pasich added that the Cornell family is "disturbed at inferences that Chris knowingly and intentionally took his life."
"Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris — or if any substances contributed to his demise," Pasich said. "Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages. The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions."
Pasich added that side effects of Ativan include "paranoid or suicidal thoughts, slurred speech and impaired judgment"...

Yes, let’s blame the medicine. Blame the doctor. But let’s not blame the person or their lifestyle which are the real culprits.
Psychology is a primitive science. These medicines are prescribed to help people function, but it’s often trial and error. I wouldn’t assume anything until we know more...
Suicide is not painless, it shakes the living to the core. Family and friends feel the pain. There is gonna be a lot of confusion left in the wake. A lot of what if, why, how, etc.

Chris looked to be in a state of desiccation, and physical deterioration.
Ten years ago he looked far healthier. Sometimes our physical status is reflected in our psychologic status.
In other words, sometimes you look exactly as you feel inside.
Atavin.. or two? Those things are powerful. My wife took them one time before a dentist visit to remove the anxiety. She took 2 and it was like she had drunk a bottle of vodka.
Yep, it’s always someone else’s fault. The liberal mantra is often fueled by the lawyers reaping millions from the despair of neoliberalism.
And many times the medicines prescribed are worse than the problem being treated. Lorazepam (Ativan) is addictive and has some serious side effects, suicidal thoughts being just one of them. Our rehab centers in Texas and Florida deal with this addiction regularly. I have several Veterans I’m working with who were addicted to benzodiazepines. Withdrawals from these are as bad or worse than alcohol withdrawals, it can be deadly.
An extra dosage of Atavan would knock him out cold. There is no way he could function to a point of committing suicide, unless he did it before the drug kicked in.
I quickly realized the downer effect of grunge when it hit and stopped listening to it.

I know little about Chris, but I would suspect he was much like so many other successful people. He had a taste of all the world offers and found it lacking. Like all sons of Adam, he needed Christ Jesus. Man’s problem isn’t crime or liberalism or race or poverty or commies or Muslims or climate change or feminism or any other problem or ism one can name. Man’s problem is himself. Man’s problem is that we are all born in sin and only a miracle from the Lord above can solve that problem. He must give a man a new heart. When He does that the man will still have problems in this world, but his soul will finally find peace and rest.

Sounds like some strong stuff for anxiety disorder. He should have been on a weaker benzo IMHO. I have relatives who take valium and Xanax and it seems to help with anxiety without these side effects.
Her husband just killed himself. I have a feeling she might not be thinking straight. Maybe you should cut her some slack.
So what is the alternative to the benzodiazepines? I sometimes take 5 mg of Valium before I go to the dentist once a year.

Good point. Ultimately the person responsible is the one taking the drug, not the drug itself. SamE with the gun and the shooter argument.
I am. I had a Nazi war criminal as a dentist when I was a kid and the Valium is very relaxing.
You can build a tolerance to anything.
