A Georgia inmate is asking to be executed by a firing squad because he says lethal injection would be too painful for him.
Convicted murderer J.W. Ledford Jr. takes a pain medication, gabapentin, that changed his brain chemistry so much the lethal injection drug pentobarbital might not make him unconscious and would cause him to suffer an excruciating death, according to documents filed by his lawyer in US District Court.
Mr. Ledford proposes that the firing squad is a readily implemented and more reliable alternative method of execution that would eliminate the risks posed to him by lethal injection, his lawyers said in court papers filed Thursday.
The Georgia attorney generals office replied Friday there was no proof a firing squad would be less painful and contended there was no substantial risk he would suffer severe pain in a Georgia execution by lethal injection.

Bleeding out is too quick and easy in my view
Not likely in Georgia
Nitrogen Asphyxiation
Strap down the condemned
Add a medical breathing mask and brain wave monitor
supply 99% pure nitrogen (common welding gas) at 1.1 atmospheres
condemned passes out without feeling any adverse effects
wait till brainwaves are flat for 5 min
vent the room (could even be done outdoors), unstrap and remove the body
I think all states should give condemned convicts the option to be executed by firing squad or hanging if they object to lethal objection. Firing squad and hanging are reliable and low cost alternatives and it would cut down on some of the baseless appeals about the method of execution.
Nitrogen narcosis! Couldn’t be less paid full than going to the dentist. I’m in complete agreement
Speaking of murder and capital punishment in Georgia, a few months ago I found myself watching Murder in Coweta County, a TV movie from 1983. Very intriguing true story starring Andy Griffith and Johnny Cash. Also with June Carter Cash in a role so outrageous it must be seen to be believed.
Another advantage of nitrogen asphyxiation is that there is no hazard from poison gas, or toxic substances in the cadaver.

This is stupid Three drugs are used in lethal injection. Sodium thiopental is used to induce unconsciousness, (no pain), pancuronium bromide (Pavulon) to cause muscle paralysis and respiratory arrest, and potassium chloride to stop the heart. By the time step two or three happens, the person being executed is already unconscious and unable to feel the results.
Ive been shot, twice. It hurts, period And more projectiles entering the body than just one hurts more even though the first one will probably cause death. But it takes time even with a head shot. You dont have the option of being instantly dead after being out cold.
Like I said, stupid.

Better to have six guns hooked up to a computer with infrared on the perp's heart and brain. Simultaneous triple taps to head and chest. Use at least .45 ACP.
No subsequent stories about how the perp lay dying for several minutes.
My primary MD just upped my gabapentin dosage from 1800mg to 2400mg per diem. I’ve been on it for years and it really doesn’t help at all.
I take it for CTS.
It is snake oil and someone is getting the proceeds
I bet it does, you just don’t realize it or put it off to something else.
Some where I read a suggestion that made sense.
Charge a $20 "cover charge" and allow all comers to take part in firing squads. You would want to have a stadium the size of, "The Big House" at the University of Michigan to take full advantage of the fund raising opportunity and you could even sell BBQ and beer!
Mr. Ledford, before you slit Dr. Buchanan’s throat, did you offer him a pain pill?
That would certainly be an interesting way to go. Give the criminal a catcher's mitt and set him in the middle of a crater. Let him do a Johnny Bench with a mortar. Boom!
hook a hose to a tailpipe and pump the fumes into his sealed off cell.
Dead painlessly in a matter of minutes.
WHAT IS SO FREAKING HARD !?!?!
“there was no proof a firing squad would be less painful”
Well why don’t you go first Mr. Attorney General and let us know.
