A Texas man thwarted masked armed home invaders on Tuesday, saving his family in the process.
Around 4 A.M. four armed men wearing ski masks broke into the Houston, Texas, home of the Garcia family. They attacked the mother, father, and young daughter while two 19-year-old twin brothers attempted to barricade themselves in their room. After the intruders threatened to shoot their little sister, however, the brothers surrendered to them
"They had my little sister at gunpoint, so we couldn't do anything," 19-year-old Rene Garcia told KVUE.
"I didn't know what was happening until I saw a man holding a gun to my mom's head," Rubin Garcia, Rene's twin brother, told KPRC.
The intruders then proceeded to tie up the family and ransack the home looking for valuables.
"They took all our jewelry and all the cash our dad has," Rene told KVUE.
But the ordeal was heard by their uncle who lives next door. He grabbed a firearm and went to investigate. When he encountered the armed, masked intruders he opened fire striking two of them, killing one. At that point the other two robbers ran off.
The police have yet to identify the suspects who escaped the scene. "They were all wearing ski masks," Houston Police Department homicide detective David Stark said in a press conference.
Though the father and one of the twin brothers required stitches for their wounds, the entire family was soon back home and safe. Rubin Garcia credited his uncle for saving their lives.
"If he didn't save us, I think most likely one of us, we wouldn't be here today," he told KPRC.
What year was it when you were 19 years old?
It was 1898, I had just got back from charging up San Juan Hill when I turned 19
I’d say he’s about 5 months too late for a purple heart.
It wasn’t a criticism. Most people’s perspectives vary greatly at 19 years old -unless they’re in the military.
Me? I dropped out of school at 17. I wanted to work more than I wanted to learn -and I wasn’t really learning anything else at that point.
At 19, I was still washing dishes, flipping burgers, and wondering what I was going to do with my life in 1988.
When seconds count,
The police are just minutes away.
It was 1987 when I was 19. I had guns in my room. My step son was 19 in 2006 and he did as well. My Oldest grandchild will be 19 in 2031 and they will too. It not a “sign of the times” thing, it’s a culture of self reliance thing.
I think it’s a bit of both sign of the times, and culture.
And, one is inevitably shaped by the other.
Answer 1: You can never have enough guns.
Answer 2: If you can't remember how many guns you have, you might have enough guns.
Going by answer 2, I might have enough long guns, but I certainly don't have enough handguns. 😀
I had a 22 rifle in my bedroom closet from the time I was 10 years old on. That would have been 1979.
Much better toys are in my room now!
Vibrators?
What a hero. Too bad one got away, but he did a great job.
THIS is what the Democrats don’t think you have a God Given Right to do, protect your Family from other Democrats.
A lot depends on what era a person grows up in, and where. Sounds to me like you grew up in a better era, and in an area of the country where gun culture was accepted and normal.
Whole different world for young guys growing up in today's big cities.
Vibrators you ask? Come now, is that the intellectual heft you bring to the table? Geez.
Wrong side of the bed today?
Or you hit an accuracy nerve! : )
