She was at a friend's house, visiting for a few days. She has had Alzheimer's for over 6 years. She has not had any health problems other than that, but she is over 80. Today she had the classic symptoms of stroke, paralysis and drooping on one side, slurred speech, confusion, so her friend called paramedics and she is now at a good hospital.
MRI has confirmed stroke. All her symptoms have gone, and she doesn't even remember why she is in the hospital or that she had a stroke. The doctors are still running tests. She is being given the usual blood thinner drugs etc.
I'd just like to hear a little about anyone's experience with strokes where the symptoms disappeared so fast, and how the next year/s went for them, and if anyone has experience with a loved one having a stroke while suffering dementia.
Thanks for any spare prayers, too. I feel much better tonight seeing the photos of her playing her favorite video game on her phone. Will be traveling down to see her tomorrow.
Yes, it was the MRI that determined it was an actual stroke. They are saying it was from the heart, I don’t understand it all, but a fib? Anyway, her heart has had a lot to do for many years and it may be what we need to accept, and with her Dementia declining as it has been, well, you know. It’s in Gds hands.
You are right, CA guy. We do hide all the sweet fruit and the kids know where to hide their chips. She only gets water, no sweet drinks any more. It seems Post stroke her appetite is less. So we will take it a day at a time.
I take cayenne and love to eat it. Mom is not that great with pills and hates spicy food, so I’m not going to push it. What a great thread that is, and thanks for that link and your prayers.
My mom is the same way, I took advantage of her TIA last weekend and put a small amount of cayenne in empty capsules and made her take it... with good results.
Bless you and may the Lord strengthen you for being such a good daughter. Bless and heal Yaelle’s mom, Lord Jesus, remind her how much she is loved. Amen.
My mother had a heart attack at age 59, and was put on a heart-friendly diet and certain meds for many years. At 80 (+/-) she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. After years of care, her capacity was declining. WIth advise from her treating physician, we took her off the heart meds and reintroduced a few treats, like ice cream, to her diet. Seriously, why not?
As it turned out, she passed away before her memory loss was total and complete. She may not have remembered your visit the next hour or day, but when you called or were visiting she knew who you were. I think we all were blessed to have her pass before she got to not recognizing her loved ones.
I'm so sorry to hear that your mother has had a stroke, Yaelle. Prayers for both of you are on the way.
Watch, O Lord,
Amen.
Saint Augustine's Prayer for the Sick
Thank you - maybe I should
Buy some capsules
And give it a try.
It works...!
Thank you.
And thank you to everyone else for your prayers.
Beautiful font. I don’t know how to change fonts in HTML.
Mom did fine all day today. We will look into therapy. It SEEMS she has no obvious sequelae but I did the squeeze test with both her hands and one is much stronger than the other, but maybe it was before anyway.
Well, no idea how much longer dad has. Cancer throughout his body. thank you. This is too soon.
