Internet connected stuff can be really cool. Problem right now is that appliance makers are just dropping wifi in there without any software people in the room to talk about things like security and what not. But there’s some really neat stuff you can do with net connected things.
My “smart” TV has been connected to my wifi and the only thing it could do was tell me when it lost the connection.
Several times during a show.
It was irritating so we finally just turned off the wifi.
Works much better now.
My other concern on IoT for energy savings is that it lets the utility company see what appliances you have draining energy and choke them or turn them off based on THEIR standards, not yours.
