Just a personal observation..

I have seen ISIS being used MORE then ISIL..meaning to me that Obummer was more in favor of telling us the ISIS was NOT bent on world domination.

The media deliberately uses ISIS so as to NOT say “Islamic”. ISIS sounds good, like an ancient Egyptian goddess.

Actually I recall that odumbo used ISIL rather than ISIS because ISIL included the "Levant" or Jordan & Israel. And odumbo especially wanted to indicate in his evil warped anti-Israel mindset that Israel was included as part of the Islamic caliphate. Nearly everyone else used the term ISIS execpted for odumbo & his hard-core left wing marxists.

To add though, once one says “Levant” what they are doing is discretely referring to a region without Israel. I believe that Obama and his ilk used the term to poke Israel in the eye.

It’s not really trigger worthy - but it’s like when I call fancy new Nissans “Datsuns” (The Datsun Skyline, for instance) the owners get kinda ticked. I do that on purpose.

Or calling an expensive Lexus a Toyota. It just gets on people’s nerves.

I vote we standardize on "violent Muslim fanatics".

Islam is a cult that is commanded to destroy and then enslave the infidels in an Islamic he$$ that make the dark ages look tame.

Although most Muslims are non violent, their cult's KORAN commands all of them to kill infidels, rape children, and terrorize infidels until Islam wins.

I vote we just call them Muslims.

This peaceful march was in Michigan, they are already working to overthrow our Constitution in favor of Sharia law.

-Daesh the best version to use in my opinion, since ISIS hates being called Daesh. This is because “Daesh” is the acronym for ISIL in Arabic, and it implies that it is not the “Islamic State” and it is only another militia in the area. ISIS wants to be the only “Islamic State” in the world and not just one of the ones from Iraq and Syria, so they hate the name. All Arabs use this name that are against ISIS, and it is used as an insult in many cases.

Your argument is well thought out and sensible. However lefty politicians also prefer deash too but for a different reason: because ISLAMIC is not part of it. I care more about westerners be reminded who their enemy actually is than making the ISIS scum irritated that you called them a name they don't like.

I can definitely understand where you are coming from, because even though “Islamic” is in the acronym in Arabic, it is counter-intuitive for English speakers. Since most Arabs are Muslim, they do take the same position as most leftists who purposefully use the term “Daesh”.

The best we can do as English speakers, in my opinion, is to create efforts like MEMRI which seek to tag the associated ideology to the acronym. Informed translators can do things like comb the most obscure hadith and lesser-known verses and contain them in their historical arc to reduce calls for lack of context. In my opinion, ibn Kathir’s unabridged interpretation (tafsir, look that term up for Quran interpretations) of the Quran could do wonders to open up what is between the lines rather than isolate certain selections by themselves. I suggest everyone download a copy of ibn Kathir’s interpretation of the Quran, it will help them build their arguments immensely.

I didn’t know that about Levant. It’s really breathtaking that the grand zero was that stinking obvious about his allegiance and yet NOTHING was revealed about it.
