NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans began the process of taking down Confederate statutes early Monday with the removal of the monument to the Battle at Liberty Place. The city became the latest Southern body to divorce itself from what some say are symbols of racism and intolerance but which opponents say are historic.

Why are they destroying the history of this country?
Its their town. They can do what they want.
I think it is stupid to “ignore” such a rich and diverse history. But, no one is going to convince them that their PC History books might be wrong...or at least fuzzy.
I wonder if they are going to rename Jackson Square? Andy Jackson is the one who slaughtered all of those Injuns, right?

My ancestor left the south to fight for the north. He may have applauded this, I don’t know.
I do know when you ignore and deny history it tends to repeat itself.
I hung my confederate flag when these states began to take the monuments and flags away.
Would my ancestor agree with me on the free speech issue? I don’t know but I would like to think he would.
Just for clarification, the Battle of Liberty Place monument is not a Confederate memorial. The Battle of Liberty Place was an attempted insurrection by the Crescent City White League against the Reconstruction Louisiana state government on September 14, 1874. In 1891, the city erected a monument to commemorate and praise the insurrection from the Democratic Party point of view, which at the time was in firm political control of the city and state and was in the process of disenfranchising most blacks.
It's no different from what the Taliban and ISIS do when they destroy artifacts. Or what Germany (Germany is the EU) does when it enables invaders to overrun nations with strong, vibrant local cultures.
Can’t this be put to a stop by the HISTORICAL LANDMARK designation?
The people of New Orleans had no say in this whatsoever.
Those that forget their history are doomed to repeat it.
Or Stalin having people removed from photographs according to whether or not they were politically approved. It’s interesting what company these people are keeping-all opponents of freedom and truth.
I just emailed them, but of course it will do no good. But I will never step foot in New Orleans again, not that that is a hard decision.

As we see again and again liberals want to silence, destroy, or disrupt anything they disagree with. This will never change until someone stands up to them and refuses to cave in to their endless demands.

This has been an ongoing disussion for a few years. The demographics/political
aspects of New Orleans will give you a clue as to the why and what is happening.
With that response, you are part of the problem.

Since Jackson removed the Native Americans from their rightful ownership of land and shipped them west on the trail of tears, I suppose Jackson square and all it entails will be next. Madness reigns in this country.
