FULL TITLE: BREAKING NEWS: Former Tennessee teacher is arrested and his 15-year-old student is found safe in northern California
Former Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins was arrested in northern California overnight and 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas whom he was alleged to have kidnapped was found safe.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation broke the news in a tweet shortly before noon local time on Thursday and promised to release additional details during a press conference scheduled for 3pm.
Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kelly Giordano in California said Cummins' Nissan Rogue was found Wednesday night near the Oregon border.

I’m relieved she’s found. Did she go willingly with him....not that it matters. She needs to be at home with her family.
Sometimes, you can’t go home again. The teacher’s wife has already started divorce proceedings. Too many bonds of trust have been broken.
What about the girl? She may be better off living in a foster home until she’s 18, vs moving back home. If she has any younger siblings, a parent may worry that this girl would be a bad influence on those younger siblings. She has already made it crystal clear that she was not happy in the family home.

My fear is (not that I agree) the local community sees him as a sympathetic figure and will take his side.

Good, glad she is alive. Do you think they’ll give him a high window and an extra long sheet in prison?
I thought they’d find her dead, too.
She probably looked at his stash of cash and thought she was rich. Or, she was truly manipulated and vulnerable and victimized- the mystery will soon be solved, and he will find out that sympathy for cheating husbands, dishonorable teachers, and kidnappers is nonexistent.

And yet...and yet, something made him think that california would be hospitable to sex predators. And he’s probably not the only one with that impression, so it’s possible there’s something to it, a highly credible notion, given the state’s dominant party.
Still wondering whether or not she went voluntarily; doesn’t make any difference either way since that teacher knew better.

I thought that they would head for Costa Rica. No extradition and very few questions asked.

Anyway, I always thought that the girl ran off with him, and who knows, she might have been an instigator for all we know. Legally, it’s still kidnapping as she’s underage. A school teacher should have known that nothing good would ever come of this, and it looks as though he will see many years of prison. By the time he gets out, his fifteen year old girlfriend will be in her forties or fifties. Can’t imagine she’ll be waiting for him.
Love is a strange thing. Human sexuality is one of the most powerful forces on the planet.
The girl left a fearful sounding note behind, if not home by 6 to call the police. She never came home.
Was the note some bizarre strategy, or what? This girl reportedly has a really weird and mean mother, if cop reports are accurate. Mommy says it’s all “unfair” accusations. Who knows. Mom seems to love the girl, certainly in the moment.
