State Police have arrested a Worcester man in the killing of Vanessa Marcotte, a jogger whose body was found last August in Princeton, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation.
Police arrested Angelo Colon-Ortiz early Saturday morning, according to the official. He is being held at the Millbury State Police barracks on $1 million cash bail.
Assault charges were filed, said Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early. I anticipate there will be a murder charge, he said.
Were very comfortable that weve got Vanessa Marcottes killer, Early said.

Angelo Colon-Ortiz
Irish?
Poor girl.
Just hang him.
We shouldn’t have to pay hundreds of thousands to keep him in prison.
I just finished checking a number of articles and none of them mentioned his legal status, I'd bet you and I are thinking the same thing.
I hate to sound racist, but when I first heard about this crime, my immediate thought was, “An Hispanic or Brazilian from Worcester, and they’ll never catch him.”
I’m glad I was only half right.
If you are familiar with Princeton, it’s wooded and rural, and about half an hour from Worcester which is mostly okay, but some of it is a third world hell hole.
Italian somewhere along the line.
Sad. Too bad she wasn’t armed.
I used to hike in the Princeton area, and up & down & all around Wachusett Mountain. This poor women was just out for a quick run right near her parents house.
Information released on February 23, based on DNA profile.
I didn't need DNA, just horoscope.
If his name was Angel Cole Ort maybe.
This dude is straight up Mejican I’m sure.
Princeton is great place. A lot of rich folks, and writers, retirees, others who don’t need to commute into work.
What I wonder about is how many times Ortiz has been deported.
Better choice of words.
Regards,
Why would there be any bail?
Anglo
I’m one town over. A lot of people are breathing easier.
I hear you. I’m guessing that someone tipped them off to his identity. He probably bragged that he had done it.
It’s beautiful.
He had an interpreter and speaks little English.
The DA doesn’t know if he’s a US citizen or not.
Shall we start placing bets of his citizenship?
I have close connections to law enforcement in Worcester and the school she attended there.
I’ll post what I know (and can) as I hear about it.
