911 caller: Friend fatally shot himself while demonstrating safety on gun

FORT WORTH--A male died Monday in south Fort Worth after reportedly shooting himself in the head while showing a friend how the safety on his gun worked.

Officers were dispatched about 5 p.m. to a home in the 4800 block of Madyson Ridge Drive, according to a police report.

A 911 caller at the home reported that his friend was holding the gun to his own head when he pulled the trigger and it discharged, said officer Jimmy Pollozani, police spokesman.

Especially if it was a large enough caliber. Lots of head shots generate sufficient pressure inside the skull to cause eyeballs to pop out of their sockets. Gross looking.

I was given a nice Browning 30-06, bolt action.

Was sighting it in on the range, and somewhere amongst 20 rounds, with finger off of the trigger, released the safety and BOOM!

Not sure how that happened, but....to the smithy it goes, for analysis.

I can’t imagine demonstrating my confidence in the integrity of a “safety”.

I would unload my pistol and check it 50 times in a row to make sure it is really unloaded,and NEVER put it to my head.Let alone put it to my head and pull the trigger.

I am pretty sure that this problem has been documented. TV shows, the internets,
etc. It is not a common problem, but it is not rare either...and it has killed folks.
