A very complicated issue. One that was ignored by President Obama during his 8 years in office. During that time Syria has entrenched itself in a seven year civil war resulting in displacing millions of Sryian refugees all over the world. President Obama's red line was ignored by the brutal Syrian President Bashar al-Assadin in 2013 when he killed more than 1,400 civilians in Syrian using chemical weapons. America was criticized for not acting as leader of the world and allowing a cancer of the globe to grow. 4/3/17: Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assadin ordered another chemical attack in northern Syria killing at least 85 people, including 20 children. This time, with President Trump at the helm, the reaction was much different. As the world watched, America responded quickly by launching 59 tomahawk missles striking the Syrian military airfield that was responsible for the chemical attack on the Syrian civilians.

Maybe, but so what? Look how that’s helped us in the rest of the world. A
America Second.
Why Trump should stand up for Syrian Muslims, should he stand up for Americans who voted for him? Did he say he is not interested in being the president of the world? He is just another George W Bush
I believe he’s doing more to help isis than the Syrian people on this deal.
I am not convinced the Syrian government launched the chemical weapons attack. Assad was winning big-time. I couldn’t think of enough motivation to use chemical weapons. Why would he draw the USA into his conflict to kill 80 or so people they could have easily killed with conventional weapons? Makes no sense.
What about the Christian Syrian people.

Yep. We overthrew Libya and they are so much worse now because of it.
Exactly. They were better off under Assad.

And Obama sits down with em?
I fear the Trump Score Card will soon start showing an appalling number of dead American servicemen.
Even worse if the little fat guy in North Korea thinks that the time is right.

Well, it is starting to look like you get the same no matter how you vote.
If we dont watch out, there will be nobody left but Hezbollah to protect religious minorities in that part of the world.
The Assads, themselves part of a minority sect hated by the Sunnis, have ruled through brute force for decades. But their success till now also stemmed from protecting the business interests in the country, which are (were) mostly Maronite, Assyrian, and Armenian Christian. All the Levantine Arab states are artificially slapped together, by the Europeans following WWI, quilt works of minority ethnic and religious groups. And the Assad's have survived and ruled by assembling together all the minor players together to keep the largest group, Sunni Muslims, in check.
This is not about Syria it is sending a message to China, North Korea and Russia!
“What about the Christian Syrian people.”
My thoughts exactly.
Will any reporters ask that question to the President? Will we ever get an answer?
I honestly don’t give a damn about Syrian Muslim people. They are no friends of ours and I don’t see any reason to give them the time of day.
From the comments, it’s clear the Trump-haters on FR are coming out of the shadows.
If we have certainty that the Syrian military is responsible for the chemical attacks, then I’m fine with this.
This strike:
1) sends a message to the entire world that this president is not Obama, who drew a succession of “lines in the sand” as he moved backwards.
2) sends an important message to Chinese president Xi and Nork president Kim Jong-un: this is not the old Obama regime, we will deal with North Korea if necessary. For Xi, China’s militarization of the South China Sea is now problematic.
3) restores credibility to the notion that the US is the only remaining superpower.
4) disarms critics of Trump (temporarily) who insist he does Russia’s bidding: the Russians are shocked by this action. No Russians were lost since they were given short-term warning of the strike.
