I would think that they were trying to say “In the Garden of Eden”, but intoxication caused the singer to slur the words.
That is exactly what happened. The singer simply could not, given his alcoholic intake, enunciate In the Garden of Eden. They finally settled for Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida, after deciding it didn’t sound so bad after all.
