“Groups like the Blendells and the Premiers could buck the tide of Beatlemania because they had a following in places like East LAand in the suburbs like the one in which I grew up.”

Probably, like in my area, people really liked the local bands a lot (especially for dance venues)and had developed loyalties. When the Stones first played here (1964) they got maybe 200 people, but the kids really turned out for shows by the local bands.

If you don't know me by now You will never never never know me All the things That we've been through You should understand me Like I understand you Now girl I know the difference Between right and wrong I ain't gonna do nothing To break up our happy home Don't get so excited When I come home A little late at night 'Cause we only act like children When we argue fuss and fight If you don't know me by now You will never never never know me We've all got our Own funny moods I've got mine, Woman you've got yours too Just trust in me like I trust in you As long as we've been together It should be so easy to do Just get yourself together Or we might as well say goodbye What good is a love affair When you can't see eye to eye If you don't know me by now You will never Never never know me

I was going to post White Bird, but not sure if it qualifies as a hit. In any case, it is probably the only well known song by that band. Great song.

My favorite Clovers song--six years bofore they scored with
Love Potion #9:
"I poured the beer in the gin;
I mixed the gin with the wine.
It had me really charging,
Like a jet T-99."

From 1980 to early 1983 they had eight songs on the Billboard Hot 100: Come Back, Love Stinks, Just Can’t Wait, Centerfold, Freeze-Frame, Angel In Blue, I Do (live), and Land Of A Thousand Dances (live). They were headlining concerts in arenas before that. Definitely not 1-hit wonders. (19 total on the Hot 100, although a couple squeaked in and didn’t get much radio play.)
