The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Her knee is going to be done by a Dr Coon in Calistoga Ca and she should be walking the next day with his technique. Her hip replacement was done locally. All the rain is causing a local phenomenon called Duck Foot to people who are outside a lot... Quack Quack..
Did I tell you that it is pouring down rain again...
you are welcome. I would love to know how it works for you and the snails.
later I found an article saying NO MOLASSES because it ramps up the bacteria and they overload when the molasses is eaten. so it is all with a grain of salt LOL
Drain that swamp! Good luck with whatever-it-is. :)
I have not, but I’m thinking about growing it on a trellis this year or next - we’re right on the border of where it can survive.
Check out David the Good, who’s got a pretty awesome website called “The Survival Gardener” and recently posted about chayote. (Bonus: his books are awesome and published by Castalia House, so every time you look at him you’re upsetting a liberal.)
I planted the cornelian cherries and honeyberry bushes that I ordered earlier as a Christmas present to myself. Honeyberries are supposed to be shade-tolerant, and I’m hoping they’ll expand enough to block Large Dumb Dog’s view of the gas station downhill from us; he is Large and Dumb but also Sweet and keeps barking in hopes the gas station people will come play with him.
if there is a McAllister’s Deli near you, ask them to save you some buckets. 5 gal. And theyy are free.
A friend of mine had his knee replaced and like the Lady’s technique, they did the same to him. He was home, I think, on day 4 and began walking with me on the course. Began back to golf about day 10. He’s a tough rascal. Didn’t hit the ball very far because of knee torque. He came through the ordeal with flying colors. I’m sure Lady tubebender will too. She doesn’t look like a sissy.
They had me walking the day of my hip operation..oooooo it
did smart a bit. On day 3 they transferred me to therapy. I climbed stairs on day 3 in therapy,so I came home. I began walking the golf course, first day a half mile and worked up to one and a half by day 10.
OH, I remember the rains. I grew up in SE Alaska and Everett, WA. I do enjoy the rain, whenever we visit my family, they complain, and I walk in it. We get rains, here, it sometimes comes down in a gully washer for a little while, then it dribbles. Right now we’re in the rainy season, so it comes and goes from one day of rain, then a couple free days then more rain. It’s also beginning to heat up, in the high 70 and low 80s. Wait till August....dog days.
Rain?, Really?, in No. CA? Hmmmm.
I had my second knee replacement done last year, April 25. It was so bad I was using a walker. My first knee was done in 2008. My biggest issue is blood clots I always get them and wind up being in the hospital an extra 2 weeks. Still can’t go down a flight of stairs normally. I hope Lady Bender’s goes well and I will pray for that.
Hope you don’t take this advise wrong but tomatoes do not need a pollinator, they are self pollinating. They need a slight breeze or a shake to pollinate, greenhouse growers use an electric toothbrush or a vibrator held against the plant to simulate field conditions. Tasti Lee tomatoes are some of the best I have ever eaten, Bella Rosa rate right there with Walmart tomatoes. I grow several thousand tomatoes plants each year to sell at the local farmers market, Tasti Lee is my best seller.
Well another road block to her knee surgery has popped up in the form of a vain disorder called Stasus demitytious (sp) that will have to be taken care of first. Her knee will be done in a specialized clinic that does 7 a day on average...
If that is stasis dermatitis I have that too. A sign of poor circulation in that leg. Be sure and post an update for us. God Bless you both!
Hi, I’ve been looking for Tasti Lee seeds after reading your post. I can only find them at Burpee - 15 seeds for 6.95 plus shipping! Do you know of another source? The 15 seeds is not the problem, the price is. Thanks for any advice.
I miss those trees. Beautiful. AND the sun doth shine. Yippee!
Now that’s a woody.
snicker...
