Why Does Most of the World HATE Peanut Butter?
Self | March 25, 2017 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 03/25/2017 2:01:39 PM PDT by PJ-Comix

The other days I got the munchies for peanut butter so I put some on bread and enjoyed it. I also like peanut butter in ice cream as well as cookies. Also I like peanut butter shakes. Okay, by now you guessed it...I like peanut butter. And I'm sure most of you do too.

So my big question is why does most of the rest of the world HATE peanut butter while it is very popular with North Americans (Americans and Canadians)? I read that peanut butter is so hated by most of the rest of the world that once some aid organization sent crackers and peanut butter to some starving nation and the folks rejected it.

There has to be a reason why North Americans love peanut butter while most of the rest of the world hates the stuff.

I would love to know the history behind that.

I love it!

Ditto! But it's so fattening!

There’s a highly acclaimed anti-famine food product called PlumpyNuts produced by a French firm called, I think, Nutriset, credited with saving hundreds of thousands of African kids from starvation in times of crop failure, drought, floods etc. It’s basically a paste made of peanut butter, nonfat dried milk, powdered sugar, and a proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals.

The Famine Rescue organizations wanted something that didn’t require refrigeration or cooking, cheap to make, balanced nutritionally, easy to store, long shelf-life, and that weaned babies and toddlers would love eating. You just tear off the end of the plastic packet, squeeze it out and lick it off your or your mama’s fingers.

PlumpyNut is the “manna” that has saved whole generations of kids in disaster areas.

Hazelnuts are disgusting.

So are walnuts.

Just saying.

But he developed like a bazillion brilliant uses for it, both culinary and industrial.

Folks from all over Europe that travel to my office virtually all want to take home some Jiff. I’ve driven many to our local grocery to pick it up. They like it, but can’t buy it back home.

Jiff or as I still call it "Jiffy" In my childhood it was Peter Pan.

I'd be fun to hear some of our favorite peanut butter sandwiches. If that gets going I'll contribute 3 of my favorites.

Peanut butter is a complete food group in the nutritional pyramid. Combine it with mayonnaise on pumpernickel bread and you have the sublime on earth.

LOL I confess I prefer Miracle Whip for that combination. Add some crisp bacon to that and it's pure heaven.

Oh me also!!!! Bet my version is more unhealthy than yours. Mine has to be on white bread and also has mayo. For the sugar part if you use Jiff it already has the sugar in it.

When I was in elementary school, we had assigned seats in the cafeteria. It seemed that everyone around me always brought peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. I came to really detest the smell of the stuff and avoid it even today, although I love peanuts (grabbing another handful of trail mix).

My intro to Vegemite came at a resort. The Brit had this gleam in his eye and was rewarded when I made a *YUCK* face and refused a second taste.

Sorta like when I offered caviar to someone who only knew it as a luxury food from movies. I did prepare a small steamed potato and a glob of sour cream, but she took an entire spoonful straight. It was priceless.

Passive-aggressiveness in action. Humans can be mean.

Spread thinly on buttered toast, is that correct?

Ruins good buttered toast, IMO.

"Thin, splotchy layer. It is so strong you should use very little. A huge mistake is treating it like peanut butter." Discovered on another blog that apparently some Brits like to mix their marmite with peanut butter. Per the poster, marmite is stronger than vegemite ( big debate between Brits and Aussies about which is better). Anyway, not having ever tasted marmite I will take his word for it and leave it out of my peanut butter 😝....

I use P-butter to carry some of the supplements I take, like curcumin powder, ginger, and chia seeds. On a whole wheat bagel with blueberries it is pretty good.

I keep wonderin’
Who’s holding Donna now?
And I keep wonderin’
Who’s heart she’s knockin’ around
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do
To pee in his shoes right now
