I saw him once. He got mad at a sit in bass player who couldn’t understand 12 bar blues, Then he walked off stage only after trying to teach him. The bass player was rudely humiliated by Berry.
Still...12 bar blues? Dude? I was kind of with Chuck on this.
>>>An all-time great, but kept playing too long. He was an embarrassment in recent years<<<
Yeah, we shouldn’t let Old People do anything else but Die.
They are much too inconvenient and the older they get the more embarrassing it is to be around them.
They should have offed Sinatra ten years before he died too.
The URL is misspelled which causes the problem when copied and pasted. Same happen when I posted this URL to my Facebook.
I kind of understand his bitterness.
Movitatin’ over the hill...got the passin’ lane now.
Go Johnny Go.
RIP
I posted this in my online Music Appreciation class just this morning, to a message entitled “Roll Over, Beethoven,” not knowing this would happen today:
“The subject reference is to a 1956 R&B song by Chuck Berry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLD5H4uQ1xs). It was supposedly written because Chuck had a continuing battle with his sister Lucy (who became Lucy Williams), who wanted to play classical music on the family’s piano while Chuck wanted to play what became rock-n-roll on his guitar: the “pull quote” from the lyrics is, “roll over Beethoven and tell Tchaikovsky the news,” referring to Beethoven rolling over in his grave to hear the new music. It is, I think, the perfect metaphorical illustration of what I wrote about in another message, that in the 1950s the guitar overtakes the piano as the defining musical instrument.”
Roll over Beethoven, make some room for Chuck. RIP.
Of all times for a typo! CHUCK Berry, not “Check” Berry.
Now watch the eulogies at his funeral become the latest stage in #NeverTrump-itis.
Bummer. He was a great musician.
White people. We invented everything!
LOL, if he didn’t know that, what the heck was he playing with him for?
I could see it if it were some kind of charity, where an amateur would get a chance to play with someone like Chuck Berry, but other than that. It would be strange for a Bass Player playing with Chuck Berry not to be able to play 12 bar blues.
Doesn’t excuse being a jackass, though.

That’s the good thing about just knowing his songs.
At least in my case.
You get all the good with none of the bad.
Anyway Chuck, “Be Goode” :)
Look up Sister Rosetta Tharpe on YouTube. She was years ahead of him.
That was a special song for my 13 yr old self, although fortunately I outgrew that phase rather quickly!
I play in a senior citizen band. Our oldest member is 99 this year. I’m the youngest at 65.
That said, I like Chuck Berry music.
Chuck allegedly placed a video camera in the ladies room
of his nightclub and there was a class action lawsuit
around it. The worst thing involved Berry, sex, and
defecation and it was some sick stuff although I didn’t
bother to retain the memory.
