Stay Safe Freepers !!
Just got done shoveling.
We’re getting a couple inches an hour.
The stuff is very fine and icy but the texture is most like if you mixed regular granulated sugar with 10X. It’s just like shoveling sugar.
So it slides off the shovel very easily but is very dense.
The lake effect tomorrow is going to be a lot lighter and fluffier.
And there’s another storm on tap for this weekend, starting Friday night and through Sunday night with a chance of rain in the middle of the day Sat.
Just what we DON’T need.
It’ll turn into a block of ice.
It depends on the snow storm. If a Nor’easter, with heavy, wet snow, that snow storm is as dangerous as a hurricane. How so? Downed live wires, collapsed roofs, upended trees and branched propelled into house, cars, roads, wires.
Thanks, I knew the comparison was hard to make but I also knew that
snow storms could be very destructive without the wind damage, etc.
Tonight, snow tapers off, but breezy conditions with winds up to 35 mph, with possible power outages. Snow continues on Wednesday, with gusty winds and whiteout conditions, especially in the afternoon. Highs in the low 20s. Travel conditions improve Wednesday evening as the snowfall gradually tapers off and winds decrease. Snow showers on Thursday, with highs in the mid 20s. Partly sunny on Friday, with highs in the low 30s. Light snow returns on Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the mid 30s. Partly sunny on Monday, with highs in the upper 30s. Snow and rain showers possible on Tuesday, with highs near 40.
I've lived through both, so I am able to gauge the differences and similarities. Neither are weather events that are anything to sneeze at.
A number of years ago, during a for real blizzard, a house, not far from me, went up in flames, due to downed live wires; the house was completely destroyed...inside and out.
I hope you’re alright! It looks like your area got it a lot worse than we did - the refreeze and wind chill will be the worst for us, tomorrow.
I’ve been around a lot of hurricanes but no real winter
blizzard per se except for a few ice storms on the gulf coast.
Interesting, we have the same numbers in our sign on dates,
just in different order. Almost sign on twins. lol
I lurked for almost a year, before I signed up to post. Did you jump right in, or wait and read a bit first?
Amrap! Hey! Zingy Zingy!
No pink flamingos out dey?
I actually signed up a few months earlier but had computer problems which
ultimately as a result I could not get signed back in. JR couldn’t figure
it out either so I just signed up under this name. I jumped in after a month
or so of reading.
Which Wegmans locations in CNY are closing for the storm?

You were MUCH “braver” than I, back then. I read and read and read FR, amazed at how great the posts were ( those were the days...eh? ) and didn’t think that I had much to add. But then, I finally took courage ( to cheer on the MARCH FOR FREEDOM, which I had wanted to attend, but was unable to )and here I am. :-)
I would think they're not getting very much in the way of deliveries for the next 12 hours or so.
There's a tractor-trailer ban on the Thruway, on Route 81, and on Route 17.
Oh, we’re fine! We got about 7-8 inches of snow, hardly a blowout. And some nice boys stopped by to clean up our driveway, thanks.
Don’t know about being all that brave but I wasn’t that agressive or contenious either.
There was a group Howlin, Dog Gone, CHIEF Negotiator, etc that I miss a lot from back
in the day.
Here’s some history of JR’s perception what he was trying to do with FreeRepublic.com

New update from snowy Ct.; we did get about 2’ and it’s snowing again. :-(
I remember all of the statements that JR posted back then. And unlike now, just about everyone stuck to the rules and statement overviews.
Not that we didn't have some silly/fun threads ( mostly on weekends ), but the huge amount of ridiculous vanities, posted now, along with some other garbage threads, ruins FR.
Ugh!
God about 2 feet and still snowing.
