Will be taking a 4-day trip to DC this summer. Any recommendations on what to see and where to eat? We lucked up on a good hotel (normally $600 a night for $100 two blocks from the Whitehouse.) Have already contacted our Senator about getting approval to tour.
I'll sit back and enjoy (while writing things down.) Also tell me what to avoid.
Thanks!
Don’t forget the kevlar vest.
Definitely all of the Smithsonian museums. The Holocaust Museum.
You’re going to love our beautiful city...have a wonderful time.
Memorials are nice. It will be hot. A trip to Ft Marcy Park is always pleasant. Arlington Cemetery is a must
Check out the restaurants in Alexandria. Lots of cool old buildings
D.C. Is often oppressively hot and humid in the summer. Keep that in mind as you plan your stops. You’ll probably get in less each day than you think, so plan accordingly....and have fun!!!
Sunset parade, marine barracks, 8th and I streets, silent drill team, fab!! Visit me at sba headquarters. Not quite as fab
With or without kids?
I’ll check them out, definitely.
The Kennedy Center. Walk out on to their wide balcony overlooking the gorgeous Potomac.
Fords Theater and the house across the street where Lincoln died. That neighborhood waxes and wans.
Arlington Cemetery
FBI Building Tour
All the monuments
U S Mint
With teen boys.
What’s the best metro stop?
Holocaust Museum......heartbreaking but so important, must not miss
Native American Museum is good, and the dining room downstairs (cafeteria style) has some really different and tasty food
The Spy Museum is educational and FUN
Tomb of the Unknown......
Newseum
Smithsonium, of course
Trolly tour of the city
Library of Congress
Etc....I love the city!....and the Metro is a great way to travel
There are warehouses full of Smithsonian exhibits that can’t be handled in their normal exhibit space. You can contact the museum and arrange tours. The one worth the most time is the air and space storage area. They have some of the last war planes of their type anywhere. Well worth a few hours. When I went about 20 years ago they were working on the Enola Gay.
How about a month there to go to a few house/senate hearings? Boring? The metro subway to get around?
Go eat breakfast at the Trump Hotel DC. We’ve eaten there (BLT Prime by David Burke) and the food is very good. We stayed there as well — beautiful property!
