Bingo! You're absolutely right. This is just a throw-away smear, with no relevance to objective reality, and it'll be forgotten within a day or two. It was timed for precisely the reason you cited.

Now that I've had time to read the article (remember, I just posted that I only just heard about the story while listening to the John Batchelor show tonight and heard his sidekick Gordon Chang say that the only thing to do was for Sessions to resign. I grew alarmed at hearing this and quickly found the article to which they were referring, and read it for myself.), I see that it is just an attempt by the dumbocrats to take a swat at Trump because they wanted in some way, to neutralize or lessen the tremendous success of Trump's speech last night. That is what this is all about. Poor things must have been up all night coming up with this nonsense.
Whoever leaked this from the Justice Department would have known prior to confirmations, right? They bring it out now for max potential scandal. Either that or folks in the justice department are digging around looking for something to bring down Sessions. This is clearly an Obama/establishment holdover.

Flynn was the model. One by one they will all be accused of the same thing until it doesn’t work any more. Allowing Flynn to be sacrificed guaranteed that this is the tactic to be used. If it is allowed to take out Sessions then Trump is entirely not the man I have thought him to be. I expect the tactic is at an end with Sessions, though.

Sessions is a straight arrow and the 3 authors at the Washington ComPost are sniveling ComDem Liars. And so are Lindsey Graham and John McCain. I sent them tweets accusing them of being liars and guess what? Their twitter accounts are no longer active. I already had their address and Twitter gave no sign of recognizing them. They know what they are doing and they will go down with this too.
Tomorrow the phone line at the capital will burn down again.
Tell your pleasant little slur to Gordon Chang, who is a nightly guest on the John Batchelor show. I was listening to that show tonight when they broke this story. Gordon Chang immediately said on the air that there was only one thing for Sessions to do, and that was to resign. I wanted to know what they were talking about and took the time to find the article, read it, and then share it with FReepers here. I never said I believed the article. So take your little "idiot" slur and stuff it. Alternatively, you can call up the John Batchelor show (they're still on the air) and ask to speak to Gordon Chang. Maybe he'd appreciate being called an idiot since it was he who immediately stated that Sessions would have to resign.
You are both exactly correct. I said it at the time. Looking at the details, Flynn never said he would overturn the sanctions. Trump should have never given the media his scalp. The goal at the time was/is obvious: Start with Flynn and get all of Trump’s most loyal anti-establishment people out including Kellyanne, Bannon, Miller, and Sessions.
What the hell are you talking about? This is a nothing-burger of a story.
He was not part of Trump's Campaign.

Get your facts straight. President Trump didn't give the Media Flynn's scalp. Flynn screwed himself over by misleading the Vice President, and President Trump was simply putting his loyalty exactly where it belonged: with his Vice President.
You're not going to see anything remotely resembling that in this case. It's an absolute throwaway nothingburger smear, released for the sole purpose of deflecting from the President's wonderful speech last night. It will accomplish nothing.
The American people aren't suddenly going to start giving credence to the Media again. After what they've seen the Media do last year, and what it continues to do right up to this moment, the President will continue to get the benefit of the doubt from the majority of the People.
The Democrat party is in its death throes, flailing wildly and impotently as it fades into oblivion.
That is what's happening, and the petty, utterly baseless smears that the party is vomiting forth as it perishes will have no lasting impact.
The Establishment and Media (but I repeat myself) are losing, and losing badly, and we're going to continue to see the Enemy lash out powerlessly during the reminder of this process. Occasionally, out of sheer luck more than anything else, there may be some incidental damage inflicted during the course of the party's demise, but it will be insignificant when viewed in the grand scale of things.
There's no there there. It seems as if some members of this community are hysterically afraid of something which simply does not exist, and keep forgetting what's going on: fake news. People need to stop allowing themselves to be so easily manipulated by the Enemy...
I do have my facts straight. I did a long post on the Flynn situation. To say that he lied to Mike Pence is an exaggeration. He never said he would lift the sanctions:

If only Trump had consulted you, he could have spared himself this blunder. It’s not that many of us who are more astute than Trump. He has prevailed against near-impossible odds, including—after he became the candidate—the opposition of his own party.
Still there are those who are more savvy than he is, you being the prime example. Have you attempted to contact Trump, to offer your advisory services?
