Late last summer, a family in northwest Arkansas was stricken with mumps, possibly brought by a relative visiting from Iowa. The virus spread quickly among public school students in Springdale, the fourth-largest city in Arkansas. Immigrants from the Marshall Islands, a prominent community in the region, were particularly hard-hit initially, most likely because they tend to live in overcrowded homes due to poverty. But the virus, which is extremely contagious, was not confined to any particular population. At the height of the outbreak, which was near the end of 2016, about 50 new cases were reported to the Arkansas Department of Health each day.
Across the U.S., mumps has been making a surprising comeback. Outbreaks in Washington state, upstate New York, Oklahoma, Indiana and elsewhere in 2016 pushed the virus to its severest spread since 2006. The infections are not confined to unvaccinated children, so parents who chose not to immunize their children cannot be blamed entirely. Rather, the door was likely opened by the frustrating imperfection of the vaccine. But rising vaccine abstention may allow the outbreaks to persist.
The mumps virus, a member of a family called Rubulavirus, is made of a single strand of RNA inside a protein bag. The virus targets the central nervous system, which is why it can sometimes lead to encephalitis or meningitis. More commonly, a case of mumps leads to painfully swollen salivary glands, fever, muscle pain, headaches and tiredness. In some men, mumps swells testicles, occasionally resulting in infertility. Some children emerge from the illness permanently deaf. No medical treatment for mumps exists, so although most cases resolve on their own, the risk of damaging side effects warrants preventive measures.

Attention Subjects of the American Progressive Liberal Globalist Empire, This has nothing to do with un-restricted immigration, go back to sleep....
That gets my jaw tight.
But of course it’s not due to unchecked immigration from undeveloped countries. /s
Anti Vaccine Darwin Awards.
Heard it is a problem in the NHL. Watch out hockey fans
“Mumps are very painful”
Had them around five , in both sides. Painful is an understatement
Just got an email from my daughter’’s college, University of Alabama, that 3 kids have come down with Mumps.
Mumps were just a typical childhood disease right up to the 70’s in the US. Mumps were regarded as not good but also not that big of a deal, other than being housebound and sick for a week or so for the vast majority of people, with the exception of males past puberty in which case it could cause very painful testicular swelling and sterility. I recall an instance of mumps that a neighborhood boy had, he was 16 and was hospitalized. I recall that it also caused some heart problems. I also recall that it was unusual for a male past puberty to get mumps, since it was assumed that most would have had it in childhood.
Hello open borders.
But it’s okay. The ruling elite and their kids aren’t gonna get sick. :)
The Mumps nearly killed my father during WW2. He was hospitalized for months and missed deployment with his CWS unit.
This is one disease you don’t fool around with. Wonder how it got started again.
I think they should send some mumps infected folks into the Muzzlime refugee camps. Natural way to neuter them.
Please remember that having had mumps in childhood protects girls from female cancers later on. Boys before puberty who get mumps don’t risk infertility.
Most childhood diseases stress and then enhance the child’s immune system if caught in elementary school years.
Neurological disorders often are lifelong.
At college age, they could well have been vaccinated. The MMR vaccine doesn’t give full immunity for very long.
I’ve never had them!
No they say it’s due to “rising vaccine abstention”.
of course we haven’t seen a mumps outbreak like this for decades......until the global colonization of america began.
What a better way to attack & weaken a nation where the majority of the citizens are well armed.......than biological warefare.
The vaccine wasn’t available until 1967 - I was 16 so never had it.
Also never had mumps. As was fairly common then (!), my Mother used to send me to “visit” kids with mumps, trying to get me infected before puberty, but I never caught them.
There has been rising vaccine abstention but that’s just a cop out, a way to attack conservatives instead of those reintroducing the disease in the first place.
