The folks at MS are clearly aiming to keep the dust from accumulating on our Windows 10 boxes...

I think Microsoft should announce that all updates to Windows 10 happen on a once-a-week schedule, except for really critical components like the Edge web browser and the certain code related to networking.

I’m curious. Is 10 available in any way for free?

Windows 10 is a virus that shows up unannounced and unwanted. I could never find a way to delete it so I just minimized it and use chrome. It was awful.

When 7 dies I’ll probably switch my office to Linux, and run 10 in a VM for the purpose of supporting my clients who use Win.

MS jumped on the suck-train with Win8, and they’re still full speed ahead IMNSHO. They go after the lowest common denominator, which is people who like to use one finger to navigate the web. Stack on top of that their shameless theft of demographic and usage data, and they should be fined out of business.

Thanks for all your threads, dayglored.

Preventing dust accumulation, indeed!
The update cycle will now turn into the “upgrade” cycle with little grace period for application. There will no longer be an ability to selectively apply patches - you’ve got to take the entire upgrade. According to the linked article, this will occur every 6 months.
When imaging workstations via SCCM, it might be a good time to start layering your images and update the base OS with an ISO when released to the public. Then you’ll always have the latest, “upgraded” base OS for subsequent imaging work. Job security! Thanks MS!!

I’m actually looking forward to it. The update is supposed to contain usb audio class 2.0 which means I wouldn’t have to install custom drivers for every audio device I have.

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 10 and have been frustrated by what were simple fixes turned into difficult fixes.

Get Winaero Tweaker for Windows 10.
More tools here 7 Best Tools to Tweak and Customize Windows 10

Fixes many of the things that Microsoft REMOVED from past versions of Windows. Simple things like icon spacing and adding different colors to the title bar and different fonts.
As of the end of January they removed the ability to resize the text under the desktop icons and have them set to Segue UI and 9pt
9pt!! = tiny
All the fixes you find on the internet are now obsolete for that just because someone in Redmond, WA has eyes like an eagle and decided they like 9pt text size.
