Candice Wiggins' WNBA dreams quickly turned into a nightmare.
In an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, Wiggins said she was bullied for eight years in the WNBA for being straight. The former Liberty player described the culture of the league to be very, very harmful.
It wasnt like my dreams came true in the WNBA. It was quite the opposite, Wiggins said.

Reminds me of a extended family member. A real good ball player. Recruited to play softball for a well known College team.
After the first year she dropped out. Claimed she was horrified to find out the team was pretty much all gay and expected her to “play ball”. The team photo where they look like Russian Olympic Weight Lifters wasn’t a clue I guess.
DOH....
Along with the NFL...not sure about MLB....
Up to a third of MLB players are from outside the USA, mostly from macho Hispanic cultures. And MLB has a much higher percentage of suburban and rural guys. That and MLB is just much more tradition-bound than other pro sports.
Duh....you think?!
They may be gay but they don’t look dykish. I watch womens NBA for the giggle factor.
We could care less about the women's team.
Less overall athleticism.
Less skill.
Forget it.
I didn’t even know the WNBA was still around; thought it had folded.
“because watching some of them swing helps my game”
Beats Cialis.
This best WNBA team licks all of their opponents.
I was just trying to watch the WBNA last night, and thinking what a snoozefest it was. I’m not so much of a hoops fan anyway, I freely admit, but I certainly won’t be watching more WBNA games!
Years ago I was on a three day sales trip with the "factory guy", who I was meeting for the first time. That evening in the bar a WNBA game was on and he seemed pretty intent on it. I commented:
"Women's basketball? I'd rather watch midgets wrestle."
After a long pause he said: "My wife coaches the girls team at the high school"
It was pretty quiet between us after that.
When I was a kid I thought the Roller Derby gals were hot. Oh no! Please don’t tell me....
Exactly. The WNBA, it seems, is as much about giving legitimacy to a particular set of people as it is about sport. If straight women are treated with bigotry, there is your evidence.
Players or fans? :-)
did the “guy” order beer or a Shirley temple?
Homosexuals are huge bullies. I’m not surprised.
A woman I know who played on a high school girl’s basketball team told me that it was about 50% there.
And 2% are bisexual but prefer women.
