TV viewers could either laugh or cry at how lopsided the AFC and NFC championship games were Sunday, and they chose to laugh mostly at the expense of poor Phil Simms of CBS Sports.
Simms and, to a lesser extent, play-by-play partner Jim Nantz, have become popular targets on social media in recent years.

Thank you. GBYLH.
Side note: It appears now that a number of media outlets just report on what social media is saying.
I shut off the sound and play music from my hi-fi.
Who was the guy who used to announce for NFL films - back in the 70’s?
Dittos!!
Simms is the worst (yet a distant second to Berman). Anything beyond a second sentence is delivered on LOUD! in his annoying accent (and I love Southern and Western accents).
You might be referring to John Facenda, also known as The Voice of God!
That guy could read the phone book and make it sound like the greatest book ever written.
John Facenda
You know who I can’t stand?
Chris Collinsworth(less)
Yes! My mute button has the “mute” worn off. Too many commercials also wear the button thin. Do the same for NBA... like when yeww eee brown never shuts up.
Steve Sabol was the voice you hear in the older highlight reels.
My apologies, Sabol was the producer. There were a few narrators but the one you are most likely thinking about is John Facenda (sp?)
Phil Simms is not very popular in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, either. Everyone I know who encountered him here in town says he is a jerk. And then a few years ago his younger son, Matt, was here at the University of Louisville for literally a month and a half. He got suspended for four games for violating team rules, right after he got here. Then he saw action in two games, and transferred out.
You gotta wonder why a Super Bowl-winning quarterback gets cut the next year and nobody picks him up. There’s a stink on Simms; I just can’t identify it.
I'm surprised nobody picked up Peyton Manning to be an analyst. I think he'd be a good one.
The people I watch big football games with are not huge fans and so we compromise by turning down the sound and playing music while the game is on. I don’t miss the commentary one bit.
He didn’t win the SB his last year. He won the SB as starter in ‘87, on the bench due to injury in ‘90, was cut after the ‘93 season, had the chance to go to the Browns a year later and opted out.
I basically watch games now on my laptop, and do my Freeping while listening to the game then watch if I hear something interesting happening. I rarely watch anything on my TV anymore.
I hate watching games not hosted by Fox. CBS is the worst, production-wise.
When I was in San Antonio back in ‘68 I saw Dandy Don throw a long pass to Bob Hayes, who was ahead of everybody on the field. The pass was perfect = Hayes dropped it.
Meredith met Hayes before he got to the huddle and said something. Hayes started laughing. I still wonder what Don said; he was one funny dude.
