Reports Say First Lady 'Not Thrilled' About Moving To Washington (timetable moved post summer)
Hollywood Take ^ | jan 21 2017 ast | By Melissa Siegel

While Melania Trump looked happy at Donald's inauguration, sources say she isn't comfortable with the move to Washington, D.C. She and son Barron are even living in New York for a few months instead of heading to the White House.

As the new President prepares to move to the White House, his wife and youngest son Barron are staying behind in New York City. .

Sources previously told TMZ that Melania doesn't want to uproot Barron in the middle of the school year. And Page Six said that she is "really devoted" to her son, raising him herself instead of hiring nannies.

So she will commute to and from the White House until at least June. And even when summer rolls around, Melania won't be in any rush to move to D.C.

Unlike Michelle Obama, Melania Trump won't move right into the White House "Melania wants to stay in New York while her son goes to school," a source told People. "I don’t know if she will ever live away from New York full time, especially with her son in school there. She loves her home in Manhattan and her independent life."

But it also seems that Melania isn't as comfortable in the political spotlight. After all, she's a foreigner who came from a modeling background. And when she married Donald Trump, she didn't think he'd be running for President.

"She doesn't do very well with these kinds of things," said magazine writer Julia Ioffe, who wrote a GQ profile of Melania last year. "She didn't sign up to be a political wife. She wasn't in favor of Donald Trump running for president. She got behind him because she's the supportive wife, but she was trying to make him think twice, three times, four times before he did it. She wanted to be comfortable, wealthy and out of the spotlight."

In fact, many noted that it was Donald's daughter Ivanka who made most of the appearances during his campaign. Some even referred to Ivanka as Donald's "surrogate spouse" and speculated that she would take on more of the First Lady role.

Donald Trump's campaign may have also caused some tension with his wife. Melania wasn't thrilled to hear Donald's comments on the Access Hollywood tape. While that doesn't mean they are having issues in their relationship, it's another hurdle for them to overcome.

It would certainly be wonderful if she did choose to live at the WH full time.

At the same time, I respect her choice. The role of wives is very different in this day and age. She is not her husband’s chattel. She is a very independent woman with an independent life. If she chose not to be involved at all, that would be sad, but still her choice.

The femi-nazis would hardly have room to criticize her for any decision she makes!

The First Lady doesn't have any particular duties, except be hostess for State Dinners, and some Presidents had others do that for them. If Ivanka wants to fill that role, and Melania is OK with that, then I say go for it.

I frankly don't blame Melania for wanting to stay in her home, especially if Barron is still in school. She could stay in NYC all through his high school years, as far as I'm concerned. Make it what's best for HIM! She can fly down to DC, quickly, if she's needed for any particular reason.

Let them make note of each and every lie, and refute it.

At some point, when DJT gives the signal, issue the Report Card, and have consequences.

Like a behavior modification program:

Pull their press passes. Relegate them to the kiddie room during press briefings. Answer no questions, give no interviews.

Reward the most honest media with the spotlight and special privileges.

If they don’t 1) obliterate these powerful lying propaganda mouthpieces and 2) make sure every state cleans up their voting rolls and machines, the Dems will retake power. And God help us all when they do.

Why would anybody in their right mind want to live anywhere near Washington DC anyway?

Because Washington is beautiful and full of history and cultural opportunities. Why would anybody in their right mind want to live anywhere near the noise, crowds, perversions, and filth of Manhattan? Who would want to live in a high-rise? That's as far from real life--from trees and grass and beauty and animals and fresh air and normal people--as it's possible to get. (And yes, I have lived in both DC and NY.)

He can comfortably go to a top notch private School in DC.

But are those private schools willing to welcome Barron Trump? I'm thinking many of those teachers and students are very liberal, and could make life hell for a young boy in middle school trying to break in to a social circle. In NYC, he already has his friends, and they won't have to worry about his being bullied by the intolerant snobs in DC.

A more systematic way to keep track of media lies and respond to them would be a good idea. President Trump doesn’t need to be the main one doing it, though he might still comment now and then. But it’s long past time that Republicans stop remaining silent in the face of so much of it as has been the case in the past.

How about part of the Whitehouse website? A clickable link to the well-maintained log of lies....date, source, lie, and refutation?

That might be a very handy resource come re-election time.

The Trumps will do just fine - she’s doing what’s right for her son and he will do what’s right for his wife.

After seeing the way Barron is being treated, I don’t blame them if they keep him in NYC.

Many comparisons are being made between Jackie and Melania. There’s the style thing, of course. But I always got the feeling Jackie was similar to Melania in that she was a bit retiring and not constantly demanding, “look at me!”. Both got the attention because of their immense presence and class, but they weren’t in your face; people were/are naturally drawn to them.

P.S. I’m not a fan of Jackie’s but she did have style.

Melania looked a little uncomfortable at the beginning of the day HOWEVER as the day went on she was much more relaxed

How a woman can walk so far along that parade route in high heels is beyond me.........

Having moved three times as kid, twice as a high schooler, it is a hard thing. I am solidly behind the First Lady on this one. I bless her name for putting her child first and Pres. Trump for his understanding.

While Melania Trump looked happy at Donald's inauguration...

I would question that she looked all that happy at the inauguration. Melania Trump is a smart woman. She knows what D.C. is like and what it does to people. I do not blame her at all for not wanting to live in that cesspool or raise a child there. If the Obamas can hang around D.C. for another couple of years to keep from uprooting their daughter from school then why would it be surprising that Melania Trump wouldn't want to do the same to Barron? Stay in New York as long as you like.

According to biographies, Jackie stayed away from the White House quite often because she knew full well what her husband was up to with the young women there. She got her mother- and sisters-in-law and her own mother to fill in as hostess many times. Aside from her husband’s philandering, she likely preferred the comfort of her own home or other estates she had access to. She did her project (re-decorating the White House) and added her glamour to state dinners, and is remembered as a great First Lady.

Melania can do whatever suits her and her family as far as I am concerned.

Bess Truman DESPISED Washington——and spent much of her time in Missouri.
