You're a good daughter. :-)

My father was so petrified of snakes that he joined the Navy in WWII to preclude the possibility of being drafted into the army and having to crawl through snake-infested (as he imagined them) fields.

Until the day he died, if there was a snake shown on a TV show, he couldn't change the channel fast enough.

I'm pretty much the same; I consider you to be very, very brave.

Salamander,
The snake came through the plumbing from the septic system.
Like I said. It was a rural area. We had well water and a septic tank with leach field pipes. It had to come though there, because the toilet seat was down and there was no other way in.

I’ve seen quite a few possums, mostly dead on the side of the road. Never seen a soaking wet one. Thanks!

I found this site with some good pictures; I recall the snake swimming below the water surface which would fit the water snake description:

> More likely a brown water snake.

Nope, my dad killed it and brought it with us to the emergency room where they identified it as a moccasin. Plus, it think the 2 big fangs that broke off in my hand could only come from a venomous viper.

I’m surprised this is described as “something that isn’t that unusual” in Arlington County VA, but nobody else has commented on that so I must lead a sheltered life.

I would have commented earlier on this interesting observation, but I was still trying to pick myself up off the floor....

Not really...I did all that for the snake’s sake, not dad.

:D

If he’d seen it, he’d have killed it, with extreme prejudice.

My whole childhood was spent grabbing up every snake I found, much to his horror.

I cannot count the snakes he saw in our yard, then ran into the house to get a gun but when he came back, the snake was “gone”.

I moved really fast, back then.

;)

Yep, they are.

I remember seeing the world’s first Pied Ball Python at Repticon.

It was for sale at $25,000.

People have no idea how much money new morphs can bring.
