After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.
Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.
The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his familys homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special.

Time for Tea , me thinks. :)
That would be a welcome change! Which may be the reason I don’t have a roommate, nor am I in the market for one. I’m too old to run ‘Face’s Boot Camp in an effective manner, and I’m not about to pick up after any adults.
And with that, I’m going to head for the warmth of the flannel sheets!
Later!
Enjoy! I’m being nagged to clear out so some kid can use the computer.
*scribbling notes*
Observing?
No, what on earth for?
*More notes*
Evening Darks.
:)
Nothing, on earth, that is.
But it's not as though Earth was the only planet.
I was going to post an hour ago but changed my mind. I didn’t want to wake anyone up by the ping. ;o]
Morning folks.
My eyelids slammed shut shortly after 1700 last night and at midnight, they refused to stay shut. I’ve been so tired lately, I thought for sure I would sleep until 0400. Maybe tonight will be the night. Maybe.
Morning. You weren’t going to wake me up!
I always tip-toe when I know Moms are asleep.
I was thinking about trying to go in and take a nap, but I will wait on that. Of course, after the conversation yesterday about cakes, I checked to see what else I didn’t have: eggs. So I’ll forego the cake idea. I don’t need it anyway.
So what’s on the docket for the Tax-chick family today? Anything exciting? Is Jake snubbing Shannon because she’s an invalid, now?
What a precious little face!!
Well, that made my day, for sure!
Little kitten is very fierce, you know. She will chase your shoelace!
Choir practice this morning (I need to copy some song sheet). Then there’s a luncheon at church (I need to type a handout page). After that, I think I can collapse!
Bill the Son will go to work around lunchtime. Tom the Other Son will probably get out of bed around lunchtime.
Shannon hasn’t been observed yet. She’s probably still in bed in the boys’ room. She’s seems almost back to normal: it you weren’t watching for the limp, you probably wouldn’t notice.
Animals have a way of “acting normal” when they are being “observed,” no matter how bad they feel. They just want to please us. And I think Shannon is no different.
I don’t know what I’ll do today. I’d like to so something different, but I don’t even have a clue what that could be. Actually, I just want to be warm!
So I’ll do the dishes and take the trash out. I vacuumed yesterday, but only the living room has a rug, and since I have no Wet-Jet pads, I couldn’t do the rest of the floors. The rug was dirty, but the tile is really dirty. So I’ll just ignore it until payday. It’s what I do! LOL!
Maybe I can dust, while I’m ignoring the floors. My eyes will be on other things, and I’m sure most of them are dusty!
We took our Christmas decorations down yesterday, except for the wreath on the door. Maybe I’ll have time to mop the kitchen before the choir comes over. It’s sticky.
I let Shannon go outside, since she’s doing so much better, but she’s back already. It was the principle of the thing, not that she really had anything important to do outside.
Tom the Mocker is doing his “Jake! Jake!” call, so I expect Jake will come in shortly. He can open the screen himself.
The girls are planning a camping trip for tomorrow, but the current weather forecast isn’t very nice. This happened the last time, too, when Elen was going to go backpacking with Addie.
I found a heart “cascade” about 14” long and hung it on the door a week or so ago. It’s three hearts in decreasing sizes with rose buds in between. I’ll leave it up until I pack up the next tub of stuff. As for Christmas decorations, all I had were the cards, and I took them down on the 6th.
And now, I’ll go gather up the trash and take it to the Dumpster!
The only time I get mocking birds here is in the early spring, when they forage on my patio for nest-building materials. The birds can be nasty if they have a nest and you’re a new face here.
Maybe I’ll sweep my patio today, if the wind isn’t blowing. The leaves just keep coming in. But the trees are bare, so I have no idea where they’re coming from!
Yes, mockingbirds are aggressive. Tom will get nose-to-nose with Jake and shriek at him.
I’m going to get dressed and then start cleaning.
And I’ll gather up the garbage and then what? I’ve already had my breathing treatment, so the day is still ahead, waiting. Strange...
Overnight people’s dishes are done. It’s getting light.
