"After he leaves office in January, the former Leader of the Free World will become just another shlub in a suburban home with some extra work-space where his car should be, according to a report.
Obama plans to remain in Washington, DC, in a $5 million red-brick mansion he and First Lady Michelle have leased from ex-President Bill Clinton’s press secretary, Joe Lockhart.
With nine bedrooms and some 8,200 square feet of space, the stately digs already look like something out of Architectural Digest.
But according to construction permits obtained by TMZ, the property is now undergoing serious upgrades to its utilities and fencing. One of the mansion’s garages is also being fixed up so it can serve as a temporary office, the site said.
Yellow cones hinting at the state of the construction project could be seen at the property Sunday.
The huge home sits right on a public street, but has plenty of space in a paved side lot for the Obama’s lifelong Secret Service detail to operate out of.
The home, which was built in 1928, had been up for sale earlier this year for $5.3 million, but was yanked off the market, according to Business Insider."
