It is quite a place. I found that link this morning. Had to share it. Thanks for posting this article. Merry Christmas.
Very nice Red Coat poem, and I just love David McCullough. My favorite way to “read” is audiobook in the car. McCullough’s voice is also outstanding.
Highly recommend:

The Wright Brothers
Hopefully my library system has a copy of John Adams. Thanks for the tip.
Ahah! A fancy car, eh? I laugh at your expense. But it touched me, coz I drive a 1988 woody wagon. I have no such luxurious amenities. I’m lucky there are seatbelts in the dang thing. A little cassette player...find an occasional cassette Bing Crosby at a tag sale. LOL
I love audio books, but now that I’m retired...I don’t do the blasted commute any longer. HEEHAW!
Me & my woodie [AKA the Ronnie Raygun] are vintage, no frills, shabby chic. :P
Back to the book .... it’s a nice read, more like a story that unfolds. I have no idea how perfectly accurate it is; but I like it. Go for it! Let me know what you think.
Woody wagon. That’s worth some value. Haven’t seen one on the road for a long time. Course, until April I lived in the Northeast, a place that really punishes older cars.
I put Sam Adams on hold at the library so I’m looking forward to it. Will let you know, my FRiend.
No, I was not ready for that. So the woody wagon is perfect for hunting season.
So what’s the story here?
Well, this little spikehorn decided to walk in front of the crosshairs of my son’s gun. His truck was in the shop at the time and he borrowed the *Ronnie* for his hunting-gathering gig, rather than waste a possibly productive day in the woods.
The venison is so nice and tender ... better than Angus steak. :)
At least he had the courtesy to put a tarp on the rack.
Usually there are two kayaks strapped to the top, but alas,’tis winter. Good times ahead!
Interesting story. Sounds like your family is quite the explorers.
I lived for 13 years in the Poconos where the white tail deer are plentiful. I never went hunting, but the guys who lived around me did.
But one night the first year we lived there, we heard a terrific rumble and screaching of brakes out front around 9 PM. Went outside to find a deer with very large antlers had been hit by a car and broke its leg.
He tried to move around, but he couldn’t. So he settled himself down on the edge of our yard and the whole neigborhood came by to watch with spotlights and the works.
Realizing his days were numbered, the police came along and shot the beautiful white-tail. The guy across the street took the deer, gutted it, and then had it packaged for venison.
Never saw a more handsome deer my whole time living there.
From what I have seen, the PA WTs are much larger than they are here in Connecticut.
