In an interview on the FOX Business Networks Countdown to the Closing Bell, Harvard Economics Professor Greg Mankiw said the President-elect shouldnt be meddling in the affairs of corporate America, and his decision to do so may not be beneficial for the economy in the long run.
Theres a big difference between being a CEO of a company and being President of the United States. A CEO is basically a central planner for that company. The President of the United States is not the central planner for the U.S. economy, Mankiw said.

But he can set an example to everyone for how you can negotiate yourself out of unreasonable positions and empower folks to do it and kick their asses out of D.C. when they don't.
Mankiw is a conservative and has been an economic adviser to several Republican politicians.
From 2003 to 2005, Mankiw was chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President George W. Bush.
In 2006, he became an economic adviser to Mitt Romney, and he worked with Romney during the presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.
A few RED FLAGS here for me...guess he could be ‘butt hurt’ or could this be why Romney wanted to talk to Trump about this guy for Economics Advisor...guess we’ll wait and see...
My son in law is a Harvard grad and thank God not typical of the breed. During one visit I was sternly lectured by one of his classmates about the evils of capitalism, while leaning on his Porsche Cayenne.
PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP is already bringing new jobs to America and making deals to let them stay in America.
PRESIDENT OBAMA ‘created’ jobs by stealing companies from the legal shareholders and giving it to the government as well as stealing from AMERICAN TAX PAYERS to create pseudo green energy companies.
AMERICA is becoming GREAT AGAIN. Leave, Professor Mankiw and take your CARBON TAX with you! Or better yet, READ THE “ART OF THE DEAL.”
One of the most influential economists in the world explains why a carbon tax is a good idea

The major function of a CEO is to protect the brand of the company and advance its image so that customers will buy more stuff and investors will part with their hard earned cash in order to make more money.
The above description is a good guideline to follow in order to understand Trump. He is bringing back the U.S brand and his intent is to make it again the world’s top brand, for customers as well as investors.
Just curious, do Congress bills live on across Congresses? I.e. can Congress get something ready for Trump in advance, even though Obama would not touch it with a ten foot pole.
So true.
Visual metaphors is what Trump is producing.
not conservative enough to refuse agw
If you profiled the top CEO’s of USA based corporations you’d probably find most went to Ivy League schools, vote for Democrats regularly, never served in the military, their children never served or serve now, view Patriotism as a quaint devotion and all are “Free Traders”.
He doesn’t strike me as conservative. Does working for Bush or Romney qualify him as “a conservative”?
But when Donald rushes in to be the dutch boy with his finger in the dike right HERE, oh no... now Donald is supposedly the meddler.
If you can, do it. If you can’t, teach.
few care about piddling away the infrastructure of America
“How many jobs have you saved, Professor Mankiw?”
I think you may be on to something here. What could be more fun than turn their Alinski tactics against them AND parody of of their old sixties chants?
“Hey Trump! What do you say? How many jobs did you save today?”
“Probably something that NEEDS to be said”
I agree. Hopefully, this is “off to a good start” PR that will be left to others in his administration.
Actually I think it time we stop accept the words of the theoreticians and poltical dogmatists at Universities as gospel truth.
Maybe we need start examining the outcomes for the USA of following their theories on Economic and Trade for the last 70 years. There all sort of Economic theory, such as Marxism” that are proven failures. Just because someone is a “Havard Professor of Economics” does not mean he actually has sound ideas.
I would add to my profile of CEO’s: Godless creatures that consider themselves a “Citizen of the World”.
Mankiw is right. Trump should try to improve the overall business climate and not target individual companies.
No, that is the just emotion laden term Never Trumper throw around with NO understanding of what it actually means. Curious if any of Movement Conservative can comprehend the difference between cutting someone future taxes (i.e. Carrier) and taking money out of the Federal Treasury to make grants and loads to a crony (i.e. GM, Fisker or Solyndra)? It is utterly amusing to watch supposed Libertarians and self styled True Conservatives busy mouthing the Marxist economic dogma that all economic output is property of the State and any time the state takes less it is a Government subsidy. That is the base for this absurd crony capitalism argument. This dogma that any reduction in government taxation MUST be paid for by increased taxation on others is utterly absurd nonsense completely at odds with our system of Government. Under the US Constitution (and the John Lock theory of the Consent of the Governed ) Taxes are the gift of the people to the Government. Government has no right to the income unless the people grant it. Amazing how self proclaimed Constitutionals, quickly discard ALL fact and reason to find some childishly petulant reason to whine about Trump daily.
