City and fire officials ignored numerous violations because this was a collective of 'artists' and an enclave of progressive values. They (the victims) didn't deserve to die for this, but that is why they did. Had this been a remotely conservative venue, say a Tea Party meeting place, or a church meeting house, it would have been shut down a long long time ago due to the safety violations.
The officials are in full hand wringing and teeth gnashing mode trying to figure out how something this terrible could happen and will no doubt find their scapegoat (deservedly so in this case) in operator Derick Ion, and conveniently forget their selective enforcement of regulations as being a significant contributing factor.
Liberalism had a hand in it but nobody forced those people on a bus to be transported to that death trap.
It wasn’t suggested that they died due to force.
It was suggested that there are ideologies and lifestyles that inherrently carry potentially fatal consequences.
Understood, but my point being that had the city not been lax in enforcement, there would be no death trap.
I would say the venue, participant worldview and laxity of enforcement had something to do with liberalism but that has nothing to do with the magnitude of tragedy and grief suffered.
Watching the news conference now.... interesting how EVERY ONE of the speakers..fire...police...municipal...emergency affairs....
...are ALL women.
...all of them.
Wow
I don’t think it’s helpful to bring ideology into this situation.
This is a human tragedy.
I'm curious: do you actually have evidence that city officials ignored violations?
Any update on the Cambridge fire? I can’t find anything about it in either The Times or the NY Post.
I’m not diminishing the magnitude and tragedy of the suffering. I could not imagine being one of the parents of the killed or missing. My focus was on the lax enforcement of safety regulations and how that may have been driven by ideology at the city government level.
Steely Tom..you wrote:

Really?
You sound like the current crybabies who lost the election!
“Ideology” ...CAUSED the tragedy! If you have laws that are not enforced...(fire laws) ...because of bleeding hearts for the ‘downtrodden’...then you create a fire trap.
And this is exactly what happened.
And whats more...it is a ‘type’ of what was happening to our country before President Trump.
Laws being overlooked...scoffed at... and this nation was becoming a ‘fire trap’...waiting only for a Spark!
...pull your head out Steely Tom...
You're missing my point, and perhaps I did not articulate it well enough. I'm not suggesting in any way shape or form that anyone deserved to die or died because of their ideology. What I'm saying is that the progressive ideology of the CITY led to lax enforcement of rules that could have prevented this tragedy.
Lawlessness kills.
I think that is a fair assessment.
I used to be a real estate agent on Mercer Island (rich people enclave near Seattle). It used to be more humble because it was rather difficult to get there.
There was a time, six or 8 decades ago, where the building inspector could be bought off with a bottle of whisky, it is said. It comes up every time we do an inspection on a house from that period. The violations are rife.
i.e. I think you are right.
Be very careful!
You will be attacked as evil, heartless.
There were many innocent victims that just wanted to go to a nice Rave in a building full of religious imagery or watch the performances of a naked man in a Dalmer pose aka Posesta statue. Scroll down to last image.

People need to watch the press conferences on this. They are strange and disturbing. Yesterday, the Mayor took time to say how important it is to have free-wheeling places for artists to gather and create. Behind her, were several people of indeterminate sex (looked to be male to female transgenders). The people in charge of police, fire & the City itself all seemed to be chosen for their demographic value, not their competency.
I agree with your analysis completely. If there was any sort of church, ‘non-progressive’ business venture, or (heaven forbid) right of center political activity going on in that building, the City of Oakland would have broke out the ‘regulations’ on them and had that building cleaned up months and months ago. Of curse, no one deserved to die such a horrible death, but the city likely made exceptions to the rules because they were ‘free-spirits, painters, artists, progressives....liberals.’ It’s just another example of why the laws should be for everyone...even for the ‘progressives’ who are ‘trying to save the world’. It’s a sad situation. I hope the family and friends of the deceased can somehow find comfort. Uhggggg!!!
It is important to do an analysis of the situation that led up to the tragedy, in order to prevent recurrence.
Dykevile?
Your tone is typical, but it took me a whopping 30 sec to find this

Proof, as you seek, will come in the wake of criminal charges, but will likely never touch public officials...
