Alabama will play Washington and Ohio State is set to face Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
The selection committee stayed with the same top four Sunday as it had going into championship weekend, leaving out No. 5 Penn State even though the Nittany Lions won the Big Ten title game and beat Ohio State earlier in the season.

Out-of-conference games are typically scheduled several years in advance. Washington scheduled Rutgers while Rutgers was having a nice run and the future looked pretty bright for them.
I do agree though that Alabama and OSU will play for the title.
Other than Alabama, the SEC West wasn't that good, either. Pretty down year all across the SEC.
Don’t be ridiculous. I’m from Seattle and went to Stanford, and even I’m willing to admit that virtually the entire PAC 12 conference schedule is nothing but cupcakes. Alabama plays in a conference that cannibalizes itself every year by playing within the conference. Most SEC teams would beat Washington. Hell, even Kentucky, which is so weak in the SEC that people forget it’s in the conference, beat Louisville. While the SEC is currently the strongest conference, I think the future may belong to the Big 10. Why? I see a number of great younger coaches in the Big Ten, and the quality of the coaches determines the long term strength of the conference. I don’t see the same thing in the SEC, and that future may arrive sooner than people think. BTW, Saban played for Don James at Toledo and began his coaching career under James. You’d have to be an old Huskies fan to know that bit of trivia.
Woody Hayes, he be dead.
Only an idiot would say that. So you want to rephrase your comment.
Ohio State and Alabama is the championship game that America wants to see. Meyer v. Sagan. Two of the best defenses in the country. Two teams that have comparable depth throughout the roster. Not to mention the winners of the first 2 CF playoffs.
Rinse and repeat. Every should just get used to it. Roll Tide!
You're RIGHT as RAIN on that one.
I predicted that LeBron and the Cav's would come back from being down 3 to 1 to win the NBA title.. I won TWO lunches on that one.
I predicted Cubs would win the World Series. Won TWO more lunches on that call.
Predicted since Nov of 2015 that TRUMP would win Presidency.
I won nothing.. but sure pissed a lot of people off for many months, including blowing some minds on election night.
I'll predict for openers that Alabama will beat Washington 34 to 10.. or 41 to 17.
I'd also predict that Clemson will run Ohio State right out of the stadium by at least 14 to 20 points.
Title game will have Alabama winning over Clemson by 7 to 10 points.
The TIDE will ROLL!
The committe is a joke. A couple of years back they didn’t put Baylor or TCU in & the excuse was the conference didn’t have a championship game. This year Ohio State got in because they won their conference championship game, oh wait...
I don’t care for the current system because it makes the New Years Day bowl games of no consequence, but i think the playoff is here to stay so how about 12 teams, top 4 get a bye week.
Remember this on January 12, 2016.
Alabama Beats Clemson To Win College Football National Championship
One thing about Bama is that everybody wants to beat them, and will be amped up for that game. Every team wants to beat the traditional powers and will play their best game of the year against tOSU or Bama. Individual players can be the same way. Bama fans call it the Stephen Garcia effect. Someone can stink up the field against everyone else, but face off against Bama, and they look like a lock for the Hall of Fame.
LOL
Utter nonsense. What SEC team, besides Alabama, could beat Washington? You're not a super talented conference when your #2 team is this-year's Auburn.
I'm fully aware of the relationship between Nick Saban and Don James. I remember (somewhat vaguely) games from the end of the Jim Owens era.
Have some faith in Herman. I think he’s going to do a much better of recruiting than Strong did.
I’m sure Bama looked at yesterday’s game more as a nuisance than anything.
And Ohio State probably benefitted from not having the play for their Conference Title. If they had lost to Wisconsin, they might have been out, with two losses. So, in essence, they had nothing to gain by playing yesterday, but they had everything to lose.
Yawn...
The Big 12 couldn’t say who the ONE true champion was that year, so they were co-champs.
Secondly, the 59-0 beat down of Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game put the Buckeyes in. And in retrospect it was the right call as they went on to beat no. 1 AL and then Oregon with Heisman winner Mariotta.
Exactly. Penn State not Ohio State should be in. Ohio State lost to Penn State. It’s all politics
