Progressives and leftists outpouring of praise for Fidel Castro at his death was to be expected, although it has been more fulsome, tone-deaf, and cloying than I expected. For just a few examples see President Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.
Rational and moral people, however, will rightly ask, How would anyone aware of Castros more than 50 years of human rights abuses mourn the death of a tyrant who was both an intellectual and moral idiot, much less praise his legacy?
The Left Loves Collectivism I have a few possible answers. First, many people on the Left sold their intellects to socialism and statism long ago. Great numbers of academics, politicians, and entertainers embraced Castro as he rose to power then ruled for decades as a socialist dictator, because he represented the practical application of their ideas.
Also, he clearly irritated the same people who irritated them: conservatives, Republicans, Cold Warriors, etc. Every human rights violation, every social and economic disaster that resulted from his foolish socialist policies, and every military adventure he launched with his oversized Soviet-backed military, was forgiven if not outright praised.
As a graduate student in the early 1990s I marveled at highly educated, decent, and kind men and women in academia forgiving Castro every sin and justifying everything he did because, I suppose, Hes our guy. It seemed so childish to me. After all, I thought Gen. Augusto Pinochet was better for Chile than a Soviet-allied Marxist politician would have been, but I hardly excused Pinochets human rights crimes or pretended he was perfect. I also wasnt confused about who was better for U.S. national security interests.

Because the left instinctively chooses evil.
Those on the left love to tell everyone else in society exactly what to do and how to do it.
They’re drawn to dictators.
That he made everyone in Cuba equal is their biggest praise. Just forget that they were all equally impoverished and miserable while he raided the treasury and padded his own bank account of over $900 million. And there is no telling how many hundreds of millions of dollars he stole for his family and inner circle of cronies. You can’t expect the ruling elite to live like the peasants, can you?
In their utopia, they fancy themselves as Fidel, or one of his inner circle, worshipped and served by the impoverished, but picturesque Everybody Else. It’s a hateful vision.
2banana’s Rule:
Conservatives are more than happy to live under the same laws and taxes they want for everyone else.
Liberals and progressives expect to be exempted from the same laws and taxes they want for everyone else.
Because for all of their bull sh@t about being for the little guy who and what they really are, or aspire to be,is a wealthy dictator with their own country just like castro.
Mensheviks always respect Bolsheviks even if they may think them in too great a haste.
Total and absolute control of the populace and total redistribution of wealth except for the ruling class are two things Democrats are envious of and slobberingly drool about.
They’re control freaks.

Because they are educated beyond their capacity for reason and judgement?
Castro made disagreeing with him a crime. The American left hopes to follow in his footsteps.
The idiots deifying him would never live in the communist totalitarian system in a million years.
I would argue that what we’ve seen in western countries since about 1990 is a very gradual voluntary communist revolution on the Chinese model without the economic dislocations of the early days of the Soviet Union.
This makes it either palatable or irrelevant to large parts of the population. The only place one notices the drift to communism is in areas like identity politics, free speech and various aspects of political correctness.
Trump says he is opposed to much of this but I have to wonder how sharp edged his counter revolutionary political stance will appear after a year or two in office. It very much depends on who is advising and how things go with the first round of inevitable confrontations with the revolutionary forces still in place.
In Canada we had the opposite experience. We had a declared anti-communist government that slowly lost its interest and its edge on that issue, and more or less gave up the fight against identity politics, trying instead to re-brand it under slightly less objectionable conditions. This slowly split the conservative movement into loyalists and disenchanted dissidents (sound familiar?) and so that government fell to Justin Trudeau, who is not so much a communist sympathizer as an under-educated product of his father’s regime (his father on the other hand was widely regarded by many conservatives as a KGB agent).
Justin rather vacuously raved about Fidel not so much from an ideological point of view but because Fidel was a family friend (no doubt he had a lot in common with Justin’s dad and maybe also his mother). This has touched off a minor firestorm of criticism in Canada, but at the same time, it is fairly easy to find openly laudatory commentary on the internet (in Canada) about Fidel Castro. Like many other things, there is a polarized response to this more or less dividing the population up here 50-50, most Conservatives and some Liberals are aghast by Trudeau’s initial lack of comprehension of who and what Fidel was, while the other half take the view that any enemy of the west is a friend of theirs.
As is often the case, I just holler “get me out of here” when this sort of thing happens, but there’s nothing that one can do, this country will always be like this (and I suspect so will yours, although maybe the percentages are not quite the same).
WHY
because the end justifies the means...
otheres didnt do it right
we can do it better
blah blah blah
IT DOESNT WORK...
ASK THE PILGRIMS.... THEY TRIED IT
LIBTARDS / SNOWFLAKES / FREESHEET CORWD / COMMIES .....
NO CURE FOR STUPID
Stalinists lie. Always
They make every excuse for Communism including saying that Cuba, Vietnam, China, North Korea, USSR, Venezuela, et al aren’t “real” Communism but they love these “workers’ paradises” all the same (until their master tells them otherwise).
COM-Left.
