Calexit: Leftists File Papers to Secede, Form New Confederacy(bye felicia)

A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum — “Calexit” — on the 2018 ballot.

The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:

A “yes” vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if “California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.”

Another “yes” vote would require the governor of the newly minted “Republic of California” to apply to the United Nations for membership.

Like most of the Blue states California is a net contributor of taxes to the fedgov. It is an irony that those who are taxed the most vote for the taxers. Actually I guess that is not true since there are millions within the Blue states who vote Red, there are just too many moochers/leeches/libtards to overcome their votes. Forty five per cent pay NO federal income taxes so you can figure almost all will vote for higher taxes opposed by the producers.

There is no union under your scenario. Many, if not most, states were CREATED by the fedgov. Once the constitution was ratified the idea of a conditional ratification was squelched (see Madison and Hamilton’s correspondence during the NY ratification convention.) Once in the union, always in the union.

Attempts to secede using force are insurrections. If Congress voted to allow secession of a state presumably that would be legal whatever its horrendous practicalities.

Fine. Let them secede and then invade and occupy them.

Of course, it is silent. What would induce such thinkers to introduce a poison pill? There is no union with conditional ratification. Madison made that clear with his comment that once in the union always in the Union. Washington warned against secession in his Farewell Address which had been worked on by both Madison and Hamilton. This address has been misrepresented as Isolationist when it is anti-secession.

With Congressional approval secession might be legal but that would require a lot more thought than I choose to give it.

The Chickenhawks are the ones that WANT to go to war to keep a state in the Union. Big talk but ain’t gonna happen. If a state secedes NOBODY is gong to lift a finger to stop them. As it should be.

The US Constitutions would not have been ratified if no secession clause ever article had been included. Secession is not unconstitutional.

Actually it would very quickly become a problem. Cutting out a cancer sometimes is all that is required but any borders resulting from a CA secession would immediately become like the Mexican/US border with all its problems.

The cancer would quickly metastasize all over the West. AZ, NM, Nevada where would it stop?

Secession is a cancer which once started cannot be stopped.

Wrong question. The right question is how many will die from the chaos secession would inevitably produce. Chaos in no way limited to the state.

Never. Because it surrenders the principle that they have the right to flood any zone they desire with sufficient foreigners, they can take anywhere like that.

Slavers clearly did not believe slavery was doomed quite the contrary since the clueless ruling class provoked a war which destroyed the region for nearly a century. Lincoln had done NOTHING to take away their slaves.

The developers may want them to use in horse trading as open space offsets in exchange for development elsewhere.

It would probably pay to find out what their offer is and find out which is worth more, selling or donating for tax credit.

I certainly wouldn’t pay taxes for the privilege of owning a property I can’t actually do anything with except pay more taxes and insurance on.

I don’t think the farm folk of East Cali and NoCal would elect democrats, they don’t at the county level. They are hostage to the cities at the state level.
